Upon arrival at Pohatu Bay, guests are greeted by a variety of sheep breeds and immediately struck by the tranquil, secluded surroundings. Relax on private beaches, explore native bush, or enjoy numerous walking trails that wind through the landscape. Accommodation options cater to different preferences, ranging from the standard "Penguin Cottage" to the more whimsical "Gypsy Wagon" or "Tree House." Each unit is separate, offering privacy, though kitchen and toilet facilities may be shared. The setting provides a perfect escape for families, friends, or couples seeking peace and adventure in a unique natural environment.

Pohatu and Flea Bay form part of a working sheep and cattle farm, originally established in 1843 as the first official farm on Banks Peninsula. When the Helps family moved to the farm in the early 1970s, they discovered that they shared the land with another special resident: the White-flippered penguins, Canterbury’s unique variant of the Little Penguin. Guests can spend 24 or 48 hours in this stunningly isolated location, enjoying private sleeping units that accommodate couples looking for a romantic getaway or groups of friends seeking an adventure-filled break immersed in nature.

catfish of an accommodation. So expensive to stay in a bed bug infested mattress. my friend was advertised that she’d recieve a single room only to come and see she had four male roommates. when we brought these concerns to the whatsapp contact we were handed they tried saying they were just the project manager. these men were literally in bed when we came to see her room. terrible service, windowless rooms and bed bugs for roommates.

DO NOT STAY HERE!!! This place is infested with bedbugs it doesn’t matter how desperate or tired you are you will get bed bugs this place is crawling with them. They’re on the floor and beds. We searched for a good thirty minutes and didn’t find any before we went to sleep and in the morning they were everywhere. If you think your safe your not just don’t risk it.

Now we are sleeping on the floor with our friends, because while we were sleeping we found bedbugs in the bed. In addition, on the first day we were greeted by a power outage at the hostel, and earlier we spent an hour looking for the entrance because the address was incorrect. We asked passers-by if they knew where the hostel was, and they helped us. After standing at the door, we waited for the keys for about half an hour. I strongly advise people not to go there, and I will try to close this bedbug-infested place down with my friends through the courts.

This place is not for the faint of heart, do not waste your time on this place. It all started with a false address. My friends and I were looking for this place asking the residents of the building and the bartender for information, and that's when things started to go wrong. They showed us how to get to this hostel, but warned us that it was a scam and a bad place, and told us to report it. We thought that maybe people were exaggerating and that it was actually tolerable here. I want to say that I have often been in bad living conditions since I am from Ukraine. In the end, having found the door (it was 15:30), we saw that they had not given us the code to enter. In the end, we went into this hostel and they gave us the password an hour after we checked in. After walking around Dublin, we came to the hostel and at 23:50 they simply turned off the electricity. They only turned it on at 9 am. The next day, the nightmare continued, in the middle of the night we saw bedbugs in our beds. Quite large bedbugs. they bit me and as a result we have to sit on the floor all night hoping that we don't bring these bugs home. don't skimp and spend your time and money elsewhere

When we rented this hostel we were confused by the rating of 1. I am from Ukraine, I have lived in many terrible conditions and we thought that people exaggerated the rating of 1, however I would have given a lower rating if it was possible. Firstly, it was difficult to get here, it was difficult to find a specific entrance and we found the entrance by asking the bartender in the next establishment door. The photo does not correspond to reality. There was no toilet paper in the toilet, so we had to buy our own, while I was taking a shower and was completely soaped, the power went out without warning. BUT THE WORST THING is the bedbugs. The whole bed is covered in bedbugs, they are just everywhere. I am a rather harsh person and have lived in many conditions, but this is the worst place to spend the night. I do not recommend it to anyone.
