Versailles is one of those pastry shops that used to feel magical. Stepping inside felt like being transported back in time, with its grand, old-world charm. But fast forward a few years, and what once felt elegant now comes across as a bit tacky and outdated. The crowd seems to be mostly regulars, and as a visitor it can feel confusing — should you sit and wait for service, or head to the counter yourself? It turns out many go to the counter because the waiters take a long time to attend to tables. As for the food, it’s nothing special — perfectly fine but rather mediocre, and it no longer carries the appeal it once had. Overall, more style than substance these days, and not quite worth the detour unless you’re very curious.
The interior is awesome, very old school. Like a cafe in Paris from 1920s. Service is a bit slow when it's crowded. Desserts look great, we tasted Duchess and it was very tasty but also light. However, breakfast options were a bit weird. "Fried egg with ham and cheese" is actually 2 fried eggs and 3-4 slices of (uncooked) ham and regular hotel cheese. I think that's too little for 15€.
Very disappointing, slow service, and our pateis de nata were cold from the fridge. However, they served excellent espresso.
