Vines once covered much of Paris, and the wines produced here were celebrated throughout Europe for their quality and character. The modest vineyard of Saint-Germain-des-Pres is rooted in the same soil that nurtured Parisian wines during the Middle Ages, offering a rare opportunity to connect with the spirit of place in one of the city’s oldest and most distinguished quarters. This walking tour delves into the rich history of Parisian wine, exploring how the production and sale of wine shaped the city’s growth, economy, and culture over centuries. Guests will follow a guided route through the streets of Saint-Germain-des-Pres, learning about the Abbey Saint-Germain-des-Pres and the historic vineyards that once surrounded it, imagining the daily life and spirit of the Middle Ages while tracing the influence of wine on society, trade, and architecture. The tour also highlights the famous personalities who have called this quarter home, linking history, culture, and gastronomy in a seamless narrative that brings the area to life.
The experience concludes with a blind wine tasting featuring three carefully selected wines paired with seasonal vegetables, rustic fermented bread, and artisanal cheeses, allowing guests to savor the flavors that have long been part of Parisian tradition. Along the way, visitors gain insight into how wine was more than a beverage in medieval Paris, serving as a source of wealth, community, and cultural identity. This immersive tour combines history, storytelling, and tasting to provide a comprehensive understanding of Saint-Germain-des-Pres, connecting guests to its enduring heritage and culinary legacy. From learning about the abbey’s historic significance to experiencing the taste of local wines and traditional accompaniments, participants leave with a deeper appreciation for the role wine has played in shaping the character, economy, and culture of Paris throughout the centuries.

A wine walk in Paris with Geoffrey is an unforgettable experience. They are lively, engaging, educational and fun. His knowledge of wine and Paris is unbelievably extensive. I imagine he is one of the few experts on the history of wine in this city. (In fact, he has published a book about it.) He also clearly loves wine, giving tours and meeting people. I've lived in Paris for 25 years and was amazed at how much I didn't know about my own city! To be concrete, a tour consists of meeting at a given location with a bunch of other people from all different walks of life and setting out on an adventure. Geoffrey describes the history and culture of grape growing in Paris (which used to be the largest wine-producing region in the world!), leads you to hidden vineyards still growing in Paris, stops at many historical sites, regales you with anecdotes, pauses for outdoor wine tastings and then leads you to a bistro or two for more extensive tastings with delicious cheese and nibbles. It was a wonderful way to spend over three hours and revel in the joys of this city! I also enjoyed the conversations with the other people on the tour. I highly recommend taking a wine walk!

The Paris swine walk through St Germaine was really interesting and a great way to see and learn about the area. Geoffrey is terrifically knowledgeable and a great guide. We had so much fun learning about the French wine region as well as biodynamic wines. I highly recommend this walk!

We had originally booked the Montmartre tour as a surprise for my wife’s birthday, but due to a series of unexpected events it couldn’t go ahead. I was worried the surprise would be ruined, but Geoffrey went above and beyond — on his day off — to save the experience. He kindly arranged a tour in Saint-Germain-des-Prés, and it turned out to be absolutely perfect. The walk was both fun and insightful. We discovered a lot about the history of French wine and the area, tasted some great bottles, and picked up tips we’ll actually use back home. Geoffrey kept it relaxed and made it feel more like hanging out with a very knowledgeable friend than a formal tour. What started as a setback ended up being one of the best parts of our trip — and my wife’s birthday was saved. Highly recommend!

If you're looking for an off-the-beaten path activity in Paris, this is absolutely it. We did a wine walk in Montmartre in May and ended up having the most splendid time. Our group was small, fun and friendly, and Geoffrey tied everything together with fascinating insight, humorous quips and a kind spirit. Couldn't recommend Paris Wine Walks more.

My friend and I were visiting Paris and decided to book one of Geoffrey's wine tours in Paris. Geoffrey is an exceptional tour guide sharing personal stories of his life in Paris and his astounding historical knowledge on French wine. He encouraged group conversation with openness and acceptance of the many different opinions about the wines we were all sampling. Even those who do not have a strong interest in wine will walk away from this tour with excitement from the people they've met, the conversations they had, the beautiful sights they have seen, and their new found appreciation wine. Words cannot express how high of an opinion my friend and I have about Geoffrey and his tour. The memories of this evening will last a lifetime and we are grateful for the experience. Highly recommend. You will not be disappointed! Merci beaucoup Geoffrey & Kylie
