An amazing day for a family with two young children. Whilst many reviews talk about the negative side of tourism, and its affect on the reef, I think it’s unfair to include pirate cruise with this. Yes, there are LOTS OF BOATS. Yes, there are LOTS OF PEOPLE. This ship is one of the cleanest ships we saw today; and its crew kept the ship immaculate and running well. The pirate cruise staff were all super. For example, it was explained that the team dived to locate the government controlled anchor points in the reef rather than drop anchor or tied to any piece of reef. The snorkeling guides were fantastic with our kids. They gave them good teaching and lots of confidence. When they got cold they gave them good exercises to warm up and breathing exercises to slow their breathing. At least two of the guides were very highly trained scuba divers and it was evident from their approach to safety. We felt in good hands. The food on board was lovely too! Plenty choice for picky kids also. A thoroughly enjoyable experience and at an affordable price for our family. We do make a big effort to tip the snorkel guides and thankfully there’s a cash machine nearby when we had finished. We also spent money on board for some photos; which were expensive but captured a once in a life time (hopefully not!) experience for our family of four. Oh, and you’ll be best taking some extra cash for wet suits available to hire on the day if you don’t like the temperature of the water. Wet suits made the whole experience more relaxing. Thank you to the captain, his crew and the guides.
We had a great day at sea, and the “pirate ship” itself was a beautiful vessel. The crew was very friendly and welcoming, and the food was genuinely good. However, it was disappointing to see how far there is still to go in terms of eco-tourism. I ended up feeling a bit guilty about taking part. There were around 50–60 boats heading out in a long line to reefs that are already heavily stressed by climate change, overfishing and ocean warming. There was no information or briefing from the diving instructor about how to behave around corals, so guests were unknowingly stepping on and damaging them. There was also no mention of coral-safe sunscreen. In addition, the boats were tied directly onto the reef, with thick ropes rubbing against the coral. Egypt/Sinai has been given an extraordinary natural gift with its marine environment, and it deserves much better protection. Tourism and conservation can coexist. We should all know this, but it requires clear guidelines, education, and responsible practices.
Amaziiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiing !!!!!!!!!! The boat is really clean All of the staff is amazing; caring and decent. The divers stayed with us all the time; so we were relaxed while snorkeling though not all of us are good swimmers. I highly recommend it; i went to a similar trip in Greece; however this one was way better!!!!!!
