Get a guide if you can because otherwise you miss all the tiny details hiding in plane sight, and explanations on what the main area are. That being said this city is massive and was fascinating to explore. I will need to come back on my own and take my time.

Visiting Pompeii was an unforgettable experience. Walking through an ancient city frozen in time felt like stepping straight into history. The preserved streets, homes, mosaics, and even the shadows of daily life make everything feel so real and alive. I couldn’t believe how big the site was. Every corner had something astonishing to discover. It’s beautiful, emotional, and unbelievably fascinating all at once.

Must see archeological site for all ages. A well preserved large city (between 11,000 - 20,000 people), showing how the Romans lived. It is a whole lot of walking on not so smooth narrow sidewalks, so bring comfortable hiking shoes, plenty of water and take lots of breaks. We saw about 1/3 of the city in 3 hours. You will need more than 1 day to see all. Start early, they shut the gates around 3pm for coming in. Not ideal for baby strollers or wheelchairs. Lots of neat pictures you can take. Bring a snack, they supposedly have a restaurant inside, we saw possible sign for it. Restrooms only at entrances, that we saw, so plan accordingly. If you buy your tickets at the entrance plan on a very slow line, do to only one employee in booth and make sure you have exact change, because they will not have change. The signage for parking, ticket locations very poor and lacking. The signage in the park itself is very lacking and street numbers are very confusing so pay attention to the map they give you and track your route or it will be very easy for you to get lost. There are water fountains/spigots but they are not marked as drinkable. Please be respectful of others trying to get by you on the sidewalks and try not to block them or the room entrances and be courteous to the elderly people.

Definitely worth visiting during low season in the morning. I saw less than a hundred people the whole time. Walking through the ruins can be difficult if you don't have proper shoes. It is all cobblestone and uneven terrain. Also, bring a map it is easy to get lost and the park is large and dense in some areas. Don't forget bottled water and snacks. There are no cafes or places to eat. The cafe in the middle was closed. You will have to walk to the entrance or exit if you want something to eat. Overall, unique place to visit if you enjoy history. Plan an entire day to see the major sites. 2-3 days if you want to see everything and not feel rushed.

It's a fascinating archeological site to witness ancient Rome which was destroyed or buried in the volcanic ashes. I highly recommended to visit if you are near Naples or Sorrento. It's a massive place and well restored, still restoration work is ongoing. That said it's quite hard to tell some areas whether it's restored, or original. There are lots of information to take in and it's worth taking a tour guide as you would be lost without it because sign posts are very limited and it's like a maze. We had a tour guide of 20 people which was not very comfortable and personal. As only people in front gets a better understanding. I will suggest if you want a better experience choose less than 10 people in a tour. Plus, do not visit on a hot sunny day specially with a child. There is a very little shade, not many toilets, or water or cafe facilities for children. Please don't take any pram as pathways are not built for pram. Overall, it's a must see place, truly enriching experience, but not suitable or pleasant with a baby or young children.
