Walking Tour: "All-of-a-Kind Family"

Take your children on an engaging literary journey through the Lower East Side with this special walking tour inspired by Sydney Taylor’s beloved children’s classic, All-of-a-Kind Family. Scheduled for Wednesday, February 4th at , this tour invites families to follow in the footsteps of Ella, Henny, Sarah, Charlotte, and Gertie, exploring the real-life places and people that inspired Taylor’s story. Along the way, participants will visit iconic locations including the Main Sanctuary of the Eldridge Street Synagogue, Allen Street tenements, Hester and Orchard Streets, Seward Park, and the Seward Park Library, culminating at The Pickle Guys to sample one of the sisters’ favorite foods. The tour is recommended for children five and up along with their adult companions, offering a blend of education, storytelling, and cultural exploration.

The Museum at Eldridge Street, which hosts this walking tour, is a National Historic Landmark that opened in 1887 as the first great house of worship in America built by Jewish immigrants from Eastern Europe.
