Black Hound Clay Studio South offers a beginning handbuilding class led by Madeline Rothman, designed for students with no prior experience. In this class, participants will learn to create functional forms for everyday use, including cups, bowls, planters, vases, and more. Using a variety of handbuilding techniques such as slab, coil, and pinching, students will explore how to design pottery based on form, surface decoration, and usability. The course emphasizes hands-on learning and encourages creativity while building confidence in working with clay. Throughout the class, students will develop essential skills for shaping and decorating their pieces while understanding the relationship between design and functionality. The supportive studio environment allows participants to explore personal ideas and experiment with different techniques. Flexible installment payment options make the course accessible, allowing students to focus on their learning and enjoy the process of handbuilding. By the end of the class, participants will have a collection of thoughtfully crafted, functional pottery pieces and a strong foundation in handbuilding techniques.
