This one-day course offers an exciting introduction to waterfall ice climbing and general mountaineering, designed specifically for novice winter climbers. Participants will spend the first half of the day learning about essential climbing equipment, including crampons, ice axes, anchors, and belays. The course emphasizes safety, technique, and proper use of gear to ensure that all participants gain a solid understanding of the fundamentals before attempting any climbing activity. With guidance from experienced instructors, beginners will build confidence and familiarity with the tools and skills required to navigate icy terrain effectively.
During the second half of the day, participants will apply what they have learned by climbing under supervision on moderately angled snow and ice terrain. This practical experience allows students to appreciate efficient movement, balance, and body positioning on ice, while developing an understanding of risk management and mountaineering techniques. All technical climbing gear is provided by IMCS, but participants are required to bring a day pack and appropriate clothing suitable for cold weather conditions. This introductory course combines education, hands-on practice, and adventure, offering an engaging and memorable experience for anyone looking to explore the world of winter climbing and mountaineering in a safe and structured environment.
