One Day Ice Climbing Course Introduces Beginners to Winter Mountaineering Skills
A structured one-day training course is offering novice climbers an introduction to waterfall ice climbing and basic mountaineering techniques. Designed for beginners, the program focuses on building confidence, safety awareness, and foundational skills needed to navigate icy terrain.
The first half of the day is dedicated to classroom-style instruction and equipment familiarisation. Participants learn about essential tools such as crampons, ice axes, anchors, and belay systems, with instructors placing strong emphasis on correct usage, safety procedures, and fundamental climbing principles.
In the afternoon, trainees move into a supervised outdoor environment where they apply their newly acquired knowledge. On moderately angled snow and ice terrain, participants practice balance, movement efficiency, and body positioning while also being introduced to basic risk management in alpine conditions.
All technical equipment is provided by IMCS, while participants are required to bring suitable cold-weather clothing and a day pack. The course combines education and practical experience, offering a controlled and supportive introduction to winter climbing and mountaineering for first-time participants.
