Did the walking tour and it was a great experience. Took about an hour and 40 minutes and was not strenuous. George, our tour guide was fantastic. A born and bred local who knew his stuff and told some great funny stories of growing up with the caves. The glow worms were outstanding and the "scenery" in the caves was really interesting with great information from George. I'd also recommend watching the video presentation in the ticketing office about the history of the caves before heading off on the tour.

We joined the Ruakuri Cave tour today, and it was absolutely amazing! Our guides, Morgan and George, were incredibly friendly, knowledgeable, and so patient — even when our curious 6-year-old kept asking endless (and sometimes completely random!) questions. They answered every one with genuine kindness and made our little boy feel so included and excited throughout the tour. The glowworms were simply magical — seeing them sparkle above us like a starry sky was an unforgettable experience. The whole tour was both fun and educational, and we learned so much about the cave’s history and natural wonders. Thank you, George and Morgan, for making this such a memorable day for our family. We highly recommend the Ruakuri Cave tour to anyone visiting Waitomo — especially families with young children!
