During the winter months, Mount Etna is usually blanketed in snow, making traditional hiking along the Etna Park trails challenging. Snowshoeing provides a unique solution, allowing you to walk on the snow while exploring the volcanic landscapes. This excursion takes you along nature trails, highlighting areas of particular natural and volcanological interest within the Etna Park reserve. Guided by experts, you will learn about the volcano’s features, from lava flows to the surrounding forests of Corsican pine and Etna birch. The snow-covered landscape adds a magical dimension, with breathtaking views of the northern slopes, 2002 lava flows, lateral craters, and the volcano dominating the scenery. The stark contrasts between the white snow and the dark volcanic terrain create a truly unforgettable experience.
Participants will meet at MontataGrande in Trecastagni, where they can park for free, and then travel via 4x4 vehicles to the starting point. Proper winter equipment is essential, including waterproof hiking boots, windproof jackets, a backpack, fleece layers, hat, gloves, sunglasses, sunscreen, lip balm, and water. Snowshoe rentals are available but not included in the price. The guided tour offers stops at points of interest, including destroyed tourist resorts, extinguished lateral craters, and lunar-like landscapes at 2000 meters. This excursion provides an immersive way to experience Europe’s most important volcano in its winter attire while learning about its fascinating natural and volcanological features.
