Embark on an unforgettable Scouting Day adventure at the Westcave Outdoor Discovery Center near Round Mountain. Your journey begins with a naturalist-led hike across a sun-drenched Texas Hill Country savanna before you descend 100 feet through a dramatic limestone crevice. This path leads you into a hidden world: a lush, sheltered canyon teeming with unique plant life. Following the trail, you will arrive at the stunning finale of your guided hike, a breathtaking 40-foot waterfall that continuously replenishes a serene grotto pool below. Along this one-mile round trip, your guide will illuminate the fascinating geology, wildlife, and natural history of the preserve. Each event date offers a distinct educational theme for young explorers. The Hidden Gems program delves into the preserve's rich biodiversity, where scouts learn about habitats and conservation through an interactive game and by conducting a hands-on biological survey. Alternatively, the Water: Lifeblood of the Earth program explores our planet's most vital resource. Participants discover the water cycle, watersheds, and aquifers while observing Westcave's natural springs and rainwater collection system. Beyond the main tour, your exploration can continue along the Uplands trail, from the quiet of our bird blinds, or with activities inside the environmental learning center, making for a truly immersive day of outdoor discovery.
