Embark on an immersive walking tour through the heart of downtown Rio de Janeiro, where centuries of history unfold with every step. Your journey begins in the revitalized port area, starting at the futuristic Museum of Tomorrow before you stand in awe of Kobra's Mural, one of the world's largest and most vibrant street art displays. From there, a leisurely stroll down the grand Rio Branco Avenue reveals a stunning collection of architectural styles, setting the stage for the historical treasures that await. This is where the story of Rio truly comes alive, blending the city's modern pulse with its storied past. As you venture deeper, you will step back in time. Discover the gilded baroque splendor of the São Bento Monastery and the neoclassical grandeur of the Candelária Church. Feel the historical weight of XV Square, the former heart of imperial Brazil, and pass by the significant Brazilian Navy headquarters. Weave through the charming Teles Arch and explore the cultural exhibits at the Centro Cultural Banco do Brasil. This part of your walk uncovers the layers of Rio's colonial and imperial heritage, revealing stories etched into the very stones of the city. Your exploration continues to uncover hidden gems like the quaint Nossa Senhora da Lapa dos Mercadores church and the historic Piramide Chafaria fountain. The tour culminates at the majestic Nossa Senhora do Carmo da Antiga Sé, a church steeped in royal history. To conclude this unforgettable experience, step into the opulent Confeitaria Colombo, a legendary cafe where you can savor a delicious taste of Rio's elegant Belle Époque era.

Our tour of the central area of Rio was led by Rafael, and he did a great job taking us around and sharing fun facts about his city. If I'd had time, I'd do other tours they offer as well. This is a great service that doesn't cost anything, and would cost around $40 US per person if you use Viator or Get your Guide or similar. The recommended tip is fair, and still a super value at around $20 US. We really enjoyed it. The also offer tours in Spanish and Portuguese if on of these is your preferred language.

We have walked with several tours, the first was Santa Teresa hill and it was very, very good. Lola was our tourguide and knew a lot of details about politics and the history. We loved it! The next day we walked with her on Pedro da Sal tour. She normally did not guide this tour but the normal tourguide was ill. It was also a great tour, more information, less walking (except for the hill in pedro da Sal). We highly recommend!

Lola’s tour of Ipanema and Copacabana was excellent and brought to life the story of the area beyond the obvious beach culture. Lola is super knowledgeable, easygoing and full of facts and curiosities. This is second tour with Lola and a must-do for anyone visiting Rio (especially if you’re in the area) 10/10!!

To clarify this tour is for the Yellow, not the Orange company. Great walking tour, would super recommend. Our guide explained very well about the history of Rio, and was very engaging. Was able to answer our questions in an interesting and professional manner. m

Natália is an excellent guide! She is very enthusiastic and you can tell that she has a true passion for what she is doing :-) we had very small group size and the tour felt very personal. We found that the route of the tour was excellent and the information given by Natalia to be funny and interesting at the same time. I definitely recommend to do this tour!!!

Beyond the iconic beaches lies the vibrant soul of Rio de Janeiro: its historic downtown (Centro). A walking tour here is a captivating journey through centuries of Brazilian history, where colonial charm meets the bustling energy of a modern metropolis. Our tour begins in Cinelândia Square, a grand plaza flanked by the stunning Municipal Theater and the National Library. We'l...
