Holy Monastery of Panagia Malevi (Ιερά Μονή Παναγίας Μαλεβής) A beautiful women’s monastery located on the forested slopes of Mount Parnon, near the village of Agios Petros in Arcadia. It sits at about 900 meters elevation and is surrounded by lush nature and peace. History: Originally founded in 717 AD on a higher peak, the monastery was relocated in 1616 to its current site due to harsh winters. It has a long and rich history, playing an important role during the Greek War of Independence and suffering damage during World War II before being restored. Spiritual Significance: Panagia Malevi is famous for housing a miraculous icon of the Dormition of the Theotokos, believed to have been painted by St. Luke the Evangelist. Since 1964, this icon has been streaming fragrant holy myrrh continuously—a miracle witnessed by pilgrims, scientists, and clergy alike. Many people report healings and spiritual blessings after visiting. Feast Days: The main pilgrimage takes place on August 15 (Dormition of the Theotokos) and August 23 (Apodosis of the Feast), when thousands gather to pray and venerate the icon.
