This activity allows participants to rent a sailboat for either a morning session from 9 AM to 1 PM or an afternoon session from 1 PM to 5 PM. To rent the vessel, several requirements must be completed prior to the departure day, including submitting a skipper's resume for staff review, signing the Bareboat Charter Agreement, and having every participant complete a liability waiver. Additionally, a one-hour Skipper Checkout is required at the start of the session to assess the skipper's ability to handle the vessel. The determination of the skipper’s capability is made solely by the Staff Captain conducting the checkout, and all funds are non-refundable even if the skipper does not meet the minimum skill requirements to operate the boat independently.
If the skipper is deemed unable to manage the vessel alone, there is an option to have a captain join during the rental period, provided one is available, the total number of people on board does not exceed five, and the captain's fee of $125 per hour is paid prior to departure. This ensures that participants can still enjoy the sailing experience safely under professional guidance while maintaining compliance with safety and operational requirements. These rules are designed to provide a secure and enjoyable sailing experience for all involved while protecting both the participants and the vessel.

I went there in early November, it was a bit cold and there were not many people.

Myself and my boyfriend had the best experience at Cavan Sailing Adventures on Ramor lake! My 5-star review goes to instructor John, an exceptionally skilled skipper. His patience, attentive listening, and understanding of our skill levels made the 2-day course really enjoyable. The personalized approach helped us learn and grow our knowledge. The hands-on learning was fantastic, and the fact that the boat wasn't overcrowded enhanced our experience significantly. On the second day, we even got to sail the boat ourselves with John nearby on a security boat. I can't recommend John enough; this one-on-one learning environment is unbeatable. Having been on overbooked courses in Dublin before, I can definitely say this was a cut above the rest. Plus, John's friendly demeanor added to the whole experience!

John was the perfect teacher for what we wanted and great value for money. We asked John to get us to the point where we were happy to sail on our own without any other crew or skipper to help us. While we’d both been on boats and had some experience, we hadn’t taken a boat on our own, so this was our target. John was calm, insightful and fun to be around. He brought us through the journey of rigging the boat, understand then wind, the water, the points of sail and some more advanced thoughts on tacking a jibing, and even getting a spinnaker up! We did a two-day course and by the second half of day two we took the boat out on our own and sailed effortlessly (making it through a small squall). The great thing about this course was that, with just the two of us, we were able to ask questions specific to what we needed to know, and tailor the course length and content to our needs. If you want to learn to sail from scratch or get better at what you already know, this is an amazing place to do it.
