While rope skills are certainly important, mastering the techniques to efficiently and safely ascend different types of terrain is equally critical. During these climbing classes, participants will learn to utilize proper foot placement and body alignment to maintain balance, apply different hand placement techniques for various crack sizes, and use essential methods to maximize friction on seemingly featureless slabs. By the end of the course, participants should notice a marked improvement in their confidence on both crack and slab climbs, gaining a stronger understanding of how to move efficiently and effectively across a variety of climbing surfaces.

Prior to participating in this course, participants should have a basic understanding of outdoor self-care, including what to wear and how much water and snacks to bring. They should be able to put on a climbing harness, shoes, and helmet without assistance and have prior experience using different devices for toprope belaying. While the ability to clean and descend routes using lowering or rappelling techniques is strongly encouraged, it is not mandatory, as the focus of this course is on refining climbing technique rather than rope skills.
