Begin your adventure with Coyote Aventuras in the early morning as you gather for a refreshing drink and prepare for a full day of exploration. Your journey takes you through dense forests, arid landscapes, and vibrant cornfields, all leading toward the historic community of Santiago Apoala. Along the way, pause at a local viewpoint to admire the breathtaking geography of the region and participate in a small ceremonial offering to honor the ancestors and seek permission to safely climb their impressive cliffs. Upon arrival, settle into the communal cabins that will serve as your home for the night before heading to the rock face. A scenic walk along a canyon and clear river introduces you to the lush surroundings, complete with hanging bromeliads and moss-covered trails. The climbing experience focuses on La Peña Colorada, a stunning limestone wall with routes suitable for all skill levels. After a guided safety briefing and equipment check, you will spend the day climbing, interspersed with a riverside picnic and periods of relaxation, before returning to the cabins to unwind. In the evening, gather for a traditional dinner and bonfire, where local guides share regional legends, and guests are invited to exchange ghost stories under the starry sky. The following day begins with an early breakfast before descending to a natural pool, a site steeped in legend as the birthplace of Mixtec culture. Here, the waters are said to have healing properties and provide a serene start to your day. From the pool, walk to Apoala’s iconic turquoise waterfall, where swimming in sacred waters offers a unique and refreshing experience. Afterward, return to the community for a traditional meal accompanied by local drinks. As a final cultural highlight, visit the sacred cave guided by a local expert, learning about the Mixtec worldview and the deep respect for sacred spaces. The experience concludes as you pack up and return to Oaxaca, taking with you memories of climbing, nature, culture, and the vibrant heritage of Apoala.

In November ‘25 Ambrose delivered a wonderful mountain skills 2 course for a group of us who are scout leaders. Despite being reasonably experienced walkers we learnt a huge amount and it was all delivered brilliantly. The night navigation session was a particular highlight. We can’t recommend Ambrose highly enough.

Did the 2-day mountain skills 1 course with Ambrose around Laragh and had a phenomenal time. Learned so much about the fundamental principles of navigation, and then got to put it into practice with feedback. Would highly recommend to anyone who's interested in learning more about mountaineering or just wants an excuse to go hiking.

Excellent experience. Ambrose creates a comfortable, friendly and informative learning environment while at the same time keeping it fun even in challenging conditions. The two day course has given me the skills to keep myself and others in my company safe and comfortable on a day of hiking. This course goes far beyond using a compass, in summary I would say I've learnt to look at the bigger picture it's not all about being buried in your map. Great experience, excellent value, opens up new possibilities.

I completed my Mountain Leader 2 training with Ambrose in the Comeraghs. Ambrose is not only a high level instructor with a wealth of experience, he is also a calming and confidence building leader. Ambrose has a great ability to ensure that you bring out your natural abilities and approach tasks/challenges more confidently whilst delivering a comprehensive syllabus. He also brings great attention to detail. There is well thought out organisation in the prep before the course, even going as far as to arrange a video call for the group prior to meeting up. The follow up info and tips and advice after completion of the course is brilliant. Most importantly though, a genuinely lovely dude. I would highly recommend Ambrose for any training.

Back again with Ambrose having previously done my Mountain Skills Assessment with him. This time I was on Mountain Leader 1 with three others. All the content was covered clearly with plenty of time to discus things and practice. The night navigation in poor visibility was tough, and I think we all felt that we'd been pushed a little out of our comfort zones to find areas to improve on which is what you want for ML training. As usual Ambrose was very clear, patient, and made sure we got the most out of our time together.
