Our adventure begins with a warm welcome and a brief introduction to the day’s experiences, followed by a scenic drive to this enchanting community in the Central Valleys of Oaxaca. Teotitlán del Valle, meaning "Land of the Gods" in Nahuatl, is celebrated for its rich cultural heritage and ancient weaving traditions passed down through generations. As we stroll along cobblestone streets, you will discover colorful adobe houses adorned with intricate textile designs, offering a glimpse into the artistry and dedication of local artisans. We will visit significant landmarks, including the Church of San Juan Bautista, built over an ancient Zapotec temple, and experience the vibrant local market filled with traditional foods and handmade crafts. Each step of the village walk reveals the fusion of Zapotec and Spanish culture, bringing history to life before our eyes. The journey continues with hands-on experiences that highlight the community’s traditions and creativity. Guests will explore a candle-making workshop, learning the techniques behind crafting beeswax candles integral to local celebrations. A traditional Zapotec meal featuring authentic dishes allows for a taste of the region’s culinary heritage. Later, we will participate in a natural dye workshop, witnessing how local plants and minerals are transformed into brilliant colors for woven textiles. As the day draws to a close, we will ascend the sacred trail of Cerro Picacho to experience a breathtaking sunset over the Central Valleys, a site imbued with spiritual significance and ancestral rituals. Descending the mountain, guests return to Oaxaca with a deep appreciation of the village’s history, culture, and enduring traditions, having experienced a day that blends nature, craftsmanship, and heritage.
