Discover the heart of Cyprus as we explore the stunning Troodos Mountains and the historic Kykkos Monastery. Even if religious history isn't your focus, this journey offers a wealth of experiences, from scenic landscapes to local wine tasting. Our adventure winds through the picturesque Troodos range, renowned for its lush forests and crisp mountain air. At the base of the mountains, Omodos village, nestled among vineyards, invites us to stroll through its narrow cobblestone streets and visit the Timios Stavros Monastery, home to a sacred relic of the Holy Cross and Rope.
We’ll also pass through the charming mountain villages of Pedoulas and Prodromos, before reaching the famed Kykkos Monastery. Founded in the 11th century, this monastery is one of the wealthiest and most ornate on the island, housing the miraculous icon of the Virgin Mary, believed to have been painted by St. Luke. From its terrace, enjoy breathtaking views of the surrounding countryside, covered in lush forests and vibrant flora, perfect for a peaceful stroll.
Another highlight is the Tomb of Archbishop Makarios, located on Mount Throni. Overlooking the Kykkos Monastery, this serene site is the final resting place of Cyprus’ first president and a significant pilgrimage spot, offering sweeping views of the island.
To end the day, we’ll stop at a local winery where you can savor traditional wines like Commandaria and Zivania, completing a memorable journey through Cyprus’ rich history and natural beauty.

The monastery is traditionally believed to house a relic of the True Cross, said to have been brought to Cyprus by St. Helena in the 4th century. Because of this, it became a pilgrimage point for centuries.

Omodos with Timios Stavros Monastery never stops to amaze me! If I was to choose a place to retire this would be on my top five! The architecture, the pebbled streets, their food and the people … amazing !

Omodos is an interesting and quiet small inland village on the edge of Limassol District, Cyprus. It's a great place to stop after a trekking tour in the Trodos area. A great place to get away from the touristy areas. A pleasant town for a drink and browsing the shops and visit the monastery.

Absolutely a must-see! I love its unique vibe and peaceful atmosphere. The majestic yet modern architecture is impressively well preserved, and the fact that it’s fully accessible for free makes it even more special (though a well-deserved donation is highly recommended). Truly grateful for the experience.

A step back in time to a beautifully well-preserved Monastery, absolutely stunning inside, words do not do it justice. You do have to visit this wonderful place for yourself to appreciate the history before your own eyes.
