The SPI Assessment is available to candidates immediately after completing the SPI Course, provided they have successfully met all course requirements and fulfill the assessment pre-requisites. This allows climbers who have demonstrated competence during the course to move directly into the formal evaluation process without delay. The assessment itself is designed to test the candidate’s ability to apply the skills and techniques learned during the course in a practical setting, ensuring they are capable of instructing and managing single-pitch climbing scenarios safely and effectively.
Despite the option to take the assessment immediately, it is strongly recommended that candidates spend additional time practicing and refining their skills before attempting it. Typically, a period of six to twelve months of hands-on experience and independent practice allows candidates to consolidate their knowledge, improve confidence, and gain real-world experience. This preparation not only increases the likelihood of passing the assessment but also ensures that candidates are better equipped to teach and guide others safely in climbing environments.
