Family Canoeing Adventure Brings Nature, History, and Wildlife to Beaulieu River

A popular family canoeing experience on the scenic waters of the Beaulieu River is offering visitors a blend of outdoor recreation, local heritage, and wildlife discovery. Designed for participants of all ages, the guided tours take place in stable open Canadian canoes, allowing families to explore the tranquil river environment at a relaxed pace.

The experience begins at a well-equipped riverside meeting point featuring convenient parking, toilet facilities, and a nearby café. Upon arrival, guests are welcomed by experienced guides who provide safety briefings, paddling instruction, and all necessary equipment, ensuring even beginners feel comfortable before setting out on the water.

During the journey, guides share engaging insights into the river’s rich history and its designation as a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI), while pointing out local wildlife along the banks. The calm waters and scenic surroundings create an ideal setting for families to enjoy nature together, take photographs, and experience the quiet rhythm of paddling as a group.

The excursion concludes back at the starting point, where families can relax, change if needed, and reflect on their time on the water. With a focus on safety, education, and shared experience, the tour continues to attract families seeking a memorable outdoor adventure that combines learning with leisure on one of Hampshire’s most picturesque rivers.

I was super excited to rent a kayak and check out the castle, however they would not rent to me because I was alone. Very disappointing. Just a heads up, if you want to go alone you need to go with a guide and book it ahead of time. Good to know!

Our visit to Cavan Adventure Centre was absolutely outstanding from start to finish! My extended family and I had such an unforgettable day filled with adventure, laughter, and impeccable hospitality. The boat trip was a highlight of the day. Siobhan, our skipper, was fantastic—her professionalism and charm made the journey so enjoyable. The tour guide was equally amazing—brimming with knowledge and always ready to help, ensuring we felt safe, informed, and entertained throughout. A special mention has to go to Sean, the owner, who truly went above and beyond to make us feel welcome. His kindness and accommodating nature were second to none—he genuinely could not have done more to ensure we all had an incredible experience. After the boat trip, we had great fun on the swan boats—perfect for all ages and such a delightful activity. I even tried my hand at kayaking, which was an absolute blast. The centre provided such a variety of activities that there was something for everyone to enjoy. I can't recommend Cavan Adventure Centre highly enough! It’s the perfect destination for families, groups, or anyone looking to create wonderful memories. We’ll definitely be back.

when my family failed me on our canoeing adventure by refusing to paddle after roughly five minutes out on the lake, my day was about to end in disaster, but the team at the Cavan Adventure Centre came to my rescue. I was allowed to try kayaking and embark on my very own adventure on Lough Oughter and it was absolutely fantastic and so much fun. an amazing experience for both experienced rowers and fledglings like me.
