Embark on a unique journey as daylight fades and the magic of Oneke emerges. Your adventure begins with a relaxing sea cruise aboard a comfortable catamaran, taking you across the water to the remote and peaceful area known as The Neck. Upon arrival, you will explore beaches and forests on an evening and night walk, guided by experts who share stories of Maori and European history and culture connected to this special place. The experience also offers the exciting chance to search for the wild Rakiura tokoeka, the Stewart Island brown kiwi, in its natural habitat.
During the tour, you can enjoy a warm drink in a newly built whare, adding comfort to this immersive outdoor experience. The tour is suitable for ages fifteen and above, and guests are encouraged to bring a rain jacket, walking shoes, and warm clothing. While the chances of spotting a kiwi are improved with the guidance of knowledgeable staff, these birds are wild and cannot be guaranteed to appear. Their elusiveness is part of what makes the adventure memorable. In the event of no kiwi sighting, refunds are not offered, as the experience emphasizes nature, discovery, and conservation.

I had an amazing time on my Wild Kiwi tour to NZ! Our guide, Siobhan, was incredible. She handled unexpected challenges so well — from swapping activities around bad weather so we could still skydive, to making last-minute arrangements that ensured we ticked off everything on the itinerary. Even with road closures, she reacted quickly and kept us ahead of schedule. We also had such a fun group and everything just flowed. Absolutely loved this trip and would highly recommend Wild Kiwi!

This was an experience of a lifetime for us , we couldn’t have dreamt of a better honeymoon. The bus was comfortable and had charging points which is ideal for the longer days taking photos and videos constantly! Our guide Ben was extremely knowledgeable and had great stories to tell us on our drives throughout the South Island. His humour and relaxed nature made us all gel as a group and have great fun! He also organised all our requests for excursions and the main event for us was our day trip to Milford sound and helicopter scenic tour of Franz Josef. I’ll struggle to see anything as profound as that again! Hotels were all a high standard. Thanks for everything Wild Kiwi we will recommend this company for years to come 😊

I had the most incredible experience on the Southern Loop Wild Kiwi adventure tour, lead by our wonderful tour guide Claudia!! I had never been to New Zealand before, and was looking for a tour that took me to well-known places/experiences & also some favourites that only the locals would know about - and Claudia found this balance perfectly, resulting in an unforgettable week. I’m very grateful for her support, guidance and planning, all of which allowed me to enjoy my week away without having to figure out all the logistics myself. I would 100% recommend Wild Kiwi tours, and you best believe I will be returning sometime soon to explore more of this beautiful country with the Wild Kiwi team 💜

My tour with Wild Kiwi was incredible – I definitely recommend it! I went on the Southern Voyager tour as I only had one week to explore New Zealand as part of a holiday to Australia too. I was a little apprehensive before booking as I’ve never been on a multi-day group tour before. I’m really glad I did it. It had also been a long time since I stayed in a hostel but all the accommodation was clean and safe in convenient locations to local attractions. Although it was particularly cold during our tour so the in-room heaters were working overtime. I chose the private room upgrade which worked well as I had my own space without feeling excluded from the group. Wild Kiwi offers more premium tours but these dates didn’t line up with my trip. It was my first visit to NZ and our guide Ben made sure it was an unforgettable trip. We saw A LOT in the seven days and despite some long driving days it didn’t feel arduous or tiring; Ben’s energy, local knowledge, and care & attention made the trip extra special. He coordinated a team-cooked dinner on the first night and arranged a cake to celebrate one person’s birthday on the last night. I was pleasantly surprised to find out our group only had four people. This meant the tour felt like a more personal tour. The group dynamic plays a big part and everyone was great – Ben also helped to keep everyone engaged, helped us get to know each other, and let us sleep when we needed a nap on the bus! Besides driving time between locations, the tour also has a good balance of free time where you can choose from a range of optional activities available at different price points (from free to a few hundred $s). I didn’t feel pressured to book anything and we were given helpful advice on what was worth the money, what might be cancelled due to the weather, and how many activities to squeeze into a day. We ran into an unavoidable issue on day one when the main road was blocked due to ice/snow then an obstruction for a few hours. Ben made sure we were updated on the situation, coordinated an alternative route with Wild Kiwi, kept us occupied, and ultimately got us safely to our original destination as planned when the road reopened. Overall, I loved the trip! I saw a tonne of beautiful scenery (the photos don’t do it justice), enjoyed exploring New Zealand’s nature, laughed a lot, and unexpectedly enjoyed Christmas songs on the bus when driving through the snow. I would choose Wild Kiwi again – next time to explore the North Island.

I can't recommend Wild Kiwi enough. Both guides I had for the Big South trip were fantastic, helpful, and fun! Claudia had so much passion for New Zealand, and Tom was super informative about every place we visited. We saw so much of the South Island and all activities were optional, so was easy to be adventurous or have a quieter day if that's what you needed. The bus journeys might be long but the views were spectacular, and there's lots of stops along the way. I'd recommend this to anyone, but in particular solo travellers, it was a great way to meet new people and make friends whilst exploring this beautiful country.
