The Central Expedition is a 5-day, 4-night journey through some of the most remote, exposed, and inaccessible parts of the Grampians Peaks Trail. Beginning at Halls Gap, hikers will traverse iconic sites like Venus Baths, the Grand Canyon, and the Pinnacle before moving into backcountry campsites with limited shelter. Over the course of the expedition, participants will tackle the longest single ascent on the GPT, summit the highest peak in Gariwerd, and cross the exposed Major Mitchell Plateau. Each night, hikers will camp under the stars, enjoy freshly prepared trail meals, and be guided by an experienced local team. This expedition covers the entire Central Stage of the GPT, connecting the Northern and Southern Expeditions for those aiming to complete the full trail.
Day-to-day, the journey begins with a briefing and gear check at the Hiker Hub in Halls Gap, followed by an initial hike to Stoney Creek Hiker Camp. Subsequent days involve climbs over Mount Rosea, Mount William, and Durd Durd, traversing challenging terrains, ridgelines, and plateaus with breathtaking views. The expedition ends at Jimmy Creek Trailhead, followed by a short transfer back to Halls Gap for showers and a celebratory drink at the local brewery. Inclusions include qualified guides, camping in supported hiker camps, all trail meals, transfers, and group safety equipment. Exclusions cover personal clothing and equipment, medical and evacuation insurance, meals in towns, and pre- or post-hike accommodation.

I thoroughly enjoyed my visit here. I went on a weekday and it wasn't too busy, I could take my time and enjoy the experience. There is so much to read and learn, and an impressive display of interactive screens and quirky ways to learn. More of an interactive experience rather than a traditional museum, but very enjoyable. Not something to be done in a rush, and I don't think I would bring children. Getting your own little passport to stamp as you go through each area is a lovely touch. If you have a few hours to pass in Dublin it is well worth a visit. There are lots of lovely cafés right outside the museum within the building.

I found the museum very beautiful, very educational, and interesting. There’s actually a lot — really, a lot — to read and to take in on your own. I mean, of course, it’s a museum, that’s clear. But I don’t know — I’ve been to other museums that offer more of a mix, where you also get things explained to you, can watch things, or even touch and interact with exhibits. Just something a bit more than only reading. That said, the museum is absolutely beautiful. It’s incredibly interesting, very clean and well-maintained, and definitely worth a visit. It just doesn’t quite get five stars from me — it’s not the ultimate highlight — but it’s definitely something you should do when you’re in Dublin. I really love the idea to Collect the Stamps for your EPIC-Passport. :-)

WOW. EPIC (and the Jeanie Johnston) blew me away. I've been twice because it's so well done. The interactive nature of the museum is really engaging and fantastic for any age. I was most recently there a few days before Halloween when they had a dramatic Dracula presentation for the kids who could be heard giggling and shouting "this is so fun!" as they chased him down the hall. EPIC is unique in its ability to expertly tell the Irish story from many different angles - history over the centuries, personal stories sprinkled throughout the broader context, film and music to sports, politics, and pub culture. They use nearly every sense, with video, audio, touch screens, interactive sets, and a passport you can use to track your journey. Make time for a couple of hours here. You're going to love it! BONUS: They have a genealogy centre which you can access separately at the end. AND the ticket is good for more than just the day you visit - where does that ever happen?!

EPIC is a good to go museum. The interactive displays bring Irish history and emigration stories to life in such a modern and engaging way. I loved the passport stamping as you move through the galleries, and the mix of personal stories with global impact is really powerful. It’s not a traditional museum with artefacts, that makes it even more unique.
