This experience is not only about cooking but about stepping into the flavors history and daily rhythms that shape life in Istanbul. The journey begins in the vibrant markets of Kurtulus a district known for its colorful streets and long standing specialty shops. As we explore the spice store charcuterie and bakery you will taste and learn about the essential ingredients that give Turkish cuisine its depth and richness. Each stop reveals stories of tradition craftsmanship and regional pride creating a deeper understanding of how food is woven into the culture of the city.
Once we arrive home we will cook together in a warm inviting atmosphere that feels more like joining family than taking a class. Using the fresh ingredients gathered from the market we will prepare dishes while sharing stories about their origins how recipes differ across regions and why food carries such meaning in Turkish life. When we finally sit at the table the moment transforms into a shared meal filled with conversation comfort and connection. You will leave not only with recipes but with memories friendships and a lasting piece of Istanbul carried in your heart.

A very fun and informative three hour, hands-on introduction to Turkish cuisine, conveniently located just steps from the Hagia Sophia. Rocky and Nazli make a perfect pair: he is a charming and engaging host, providing history and context for five dishes including lentil soup, dolmas, and stuffed eggplant; she provided professional, friendly guidance as we prepared the Turkish classics. Our class was small, just three couples in a well-stocked kitchen. We made new friends as we prepared and then ate our meal. There isn't another Istanbul cooking class that provides the intimacy of Cooking Alaturka. This was one of the highlights of our holiday, and one we would happily repeat.

A delicious way to try a bunch of Turkish food at once! My friend and I did the four course meal which is $19 per person. There were two menu options so we did one of each, mine was a yogurt soup with bread, zucchini fritters, meat with tomatoes in a roasted eggplant, and a roasted fig with nuts. We also got the chilled yogurt drink which was very refreshing.

We took a cooking class as a family here during a recent trip. It was one of the top highlights of the entire trip. Rocco and Nasli are gifted chefs from whom we learned a lot. We’re back home now and seeking a local Turkish grocery supply to buy red pepper paste to make the recipes from class! Really great experience top to bottom. Thank you Rocco and Nasli!!

My dad and I did a cooking class with Rocco and Nazli this week and we loved it! The food was absolutely delicious and we had so much fun cooking and learning how to prepare 5 different dishes. Definitely recommend taking a class to learn more about Turkish cuisine and have fun doing it!!

Had such a fun experience in Rocco and Leyla’s kitchen! They opened up a private class for myself and a friend and we had the best time learning about Turkish history and Ottoman cuisine. The meal prep was easy but informative and fun. The meal turned out delicious and we ate it with Leyla with some fantastic local wine. Would highly recommend this class to anyone who enjoys cooking, food, history, and wine! Leyla was also such a funny and warm host! She was also very helpful with local recommendations for other restaurants and attractions. She even called a few places to make reservations for us! Thank you for a memorable afternoon!!!
