Trail length: 3-4 hours (round trip). Entrance: 3 Euros per person (At the entrance to the track, there is a guy who accepts both credit and cash payments). Parking: Free. Prepare for a completely different landscape from the rest of the island. The easternmost point of Madeira is a barren, rocky peninsula, with dramatic red-orange cliffs that drop into the blue ocean waters. The vegetation here is low and the winds are strong, and it feels like walking on another planet. There is a well-marked hiking trail that leads to the far end of the peninsula, offering spectacular views along its entire length. Pro tip: There is no shade along the trail. Bring a hat, sunscreen and plenty of water. The winds can be very strong, so bring a top. Likewise, we got caught in the rain halfway through the trail, so a nylon jacket can come in handy too. Distance from Funchal: About 30-40 minutes drive.

It is a beautiful route. it alternates a bit with stairs, stone paths, a little clambering and flat path. This is one of the PR that is nice to walk around. Please note that it can be very busy here quickly. and for that €3 per person, they can also do some maintenance. for example, renew the wooden deck in the beginning.

Astonishing view. We toll each and every path upon our arrival which took us about three and a half hours. You can really enjoy the nature and the view on the sea and cliffs. Definately a must visit place when driving down the east cost of Madeira.

A wonderful place for a walk if you love rocky views and the ocean 🤍 I really enjoyed this trail. A few important points, in my opinion: 1. The entrance fee is €3. You can pay by cash or card. 2. Toilets are paid — €2 at the entrance and €1 in the restaurant — so make sure you have some coins. 3. If the weather is rainy, the trail will be quite muddy ;) It’s better to wear trekking or waterproof shoes. 4. Even in dry weather, wear non-slip shoes — there are lots of stones, sand, and the last climb is quite steep. Regular sneakers can be slippery. 5. If it’s sunny, make sure to bring a hat, sunscreen, and water. 6. There’s a beach along the way where you can swim in the ocean — bring your swimsuit and a towel. 7. You can take a boat back for €15 to the tourist village of Quinta do Lorde (not far from the parking area) if you don’t feel like walking back. 8. A taxi from or to Funchal will cost around €30. 9. The Cafetaria Sardine House café & snacks, located along the route, often has long lines. 10. There are a lot of people on the trail — keep that in mind, especially if you prefer peaceful, quiet hikes ;) Enjoy your hike 🤗

Great hike along the ridge almost the entire way. Rocky area, fortunately cloudy, pleasant weather. Otherwise the sun is shining. At the beginning of the hike, there are a few snack carts and a man who collects the mandatory 3 Euro/person nature reserve fee. (You can also pay with a bank card.) We only did the hike there on a stony, dirt well-built road with many stairs up and down. You can walk comfortably with good hiking shoes, my 6-year-old son also had a smooth ride. At the end of the hike, there is a cafe where you can rest, go to the toilet (1 Euro cash), there is a snack, you can sit down. Then you can either turn back or walk to the nearby bay, where you can snorkel and take a speedboat to the nearby harbor.
