Julia

I'm a little lost here, but there are a lot of beautiful laurel plants.

Great view

This is one of the most beautiful roads. It is an easy levada, but that does not mean that you do not need good shoes. The tunnels can be wet and how much. But it is worth it. On the way you will also meet roosters, they are cool.
Tom

The part of the levada east of the Encumedea snack bar is currently closed (20 Dec 2023), as is the trail below it leading to the mountains, due to work on the hydroelectric plant. You can only get about 10 minutes down it from the snack bar. Go west on the levada following PR17 instead, on the other side of the road and through the tunnel - a brilliant hike. Or instead at the tunnel, follow the leftward levada ('Levada das Rabacas') to its end.
Chris

Following the Levada do Norte to the east from Encumeada will take you along a scenic route towards the end station where the water is piped down the valley to generate electricity and provide water. There are spectacular views to the south along the valley towards Ribeira Brava and east towards the Curral das Freiras mountain range.
