Canberra Balloon Spectacular Returns with Dawn Skies of Colour and Flight

The Canberra Balloon Spectacular continues to draw international attention as balloonists from across Australia and beyond gather for one of the world’s most visually striking aerial events. Each year, the early morning skies above Canberra transform into a moving canvas of colour as hot air balloons rise in coordinated launches, weather permitting.

Departing from the iconic Parliamentary Triangle, the balloons drift quietly over the capital, offering passengers sweeping views of the city’s carefully planned layout, green parklands, and national landmarks. The experience captures the rare stillness of lighter-than-air flight, with each journey lasting approximately forty five minutes above the city.

Flights are operated by highly experienced CASA-approved pilots, many of whom bring decades of ballooning expertise to ensure a safe and seamless experience. The event is designed not only as an adventure but also as a serene encounter with Canberra’s landscape from a unique and elevated perspective.

The experience typically spans three to four hours, including pre-flight preparation, safety briefings, and post-flight celebrations, often marked with a glass of champagne. Organised by Balloon Aloft, which has more than thirty five years of experience in commercial ballooning over Canberra, the event also advises guests to dress warmly and carry cameras to capture the unforgettable morning views. Flights may be rescheduled in case of unsuitable weather, prioritising safety while preserving the magic of the experience.
