Explore the captivating story of Sydney on this expert-led small-group walking tour, designed to immerse you in the city’s rich history, vibrant culture, and unique society. Perfect for newcomers, curious locals, or anyone eager to gain deeper insight into Australian heritage and the First Nations people, the tour begins at Customs House, where your guide introduces the history of Sydney’s colonisation and its profound impact on the Cadigal people of the Eora Nation. As you wander through the city centre, you will hear stories of Aboriginal communities, British governors, convicts, entrepreneurs, and the many multicultural migrants who have shaped Sydney into the cosmopolitan city it is today.
The journey continues through historic streets and lively laneways, concluding in part of The Rocks, where you will enjoy sweeping harbour views of the Sydney Harbour Bridge and the Opera House from a popular local brewery. With a small group of guests, you can enjoy an intimate experience without crowds, hearing every story and absorbing every detail. Along the way, your guide will provide insider recommendations for food, art, nightlife, and hidden gems across the city, offering a perspective you will not find in any guidebook. This walking tour is a perfect blend of history, culture, and modern city life for an unforgettable Sydney experience.

Steve was fantastic! He had great knowledge of the city and its history. He was also a skilled storyteller who brought the city to life for us. I appreciated his advice on what to do in the city during our visit. Highly recommend!

Excellent introduction to Sydney and its history. Very informative and interesting, Matt was very knowledgeable and gave us a good orientation to the city with lots of helpful advice and tips. The small group size enabled us to interact well with other group members. Would definitely recommend

Took the city and the rocks walking tour today with Mat by Local Sauce. First the communication by Justin in advance of the tour was excellent. He was very communicative in timing and day and location. Mat our guide was born and raised in Sydney and was very personable. Lots of history explained to us and lots of stories. It was a small group and very manageable. Excellent tour and would highly recommend to anyone that wants an understanding of the history of Sydney and areas. Thanks Mat for a great day. Cheers from two Canadians.

A++ for our amazing tour guide Shaun! He kept us entertained while we learned historical and present info of beautiful Sydney! Also, he was patient with our many requests to stop and snap photos! My husband and I would highly recommend!

This was such a great almost 4 hour walking tour from start to finish. The itinerary was packed in the best possible way—every stop felt worthwhile, well‑timed, and thoughtfully planned. Matt, tour guide was absolutely wonderful: friendly, organised, and incredibly knowledgeable. They shared so many insights and stories that added real depth to each place we visited. You could tell they genuinely loved what they do. Overall, an amazing experience and highly recommended.

Today’s The Story of Sydney Tour with Sharon was the best urban van/SUV tour we’ve ever had worldwide. Sharon is friendly, knowledgeable, and an excellent driver in Sydney’s challenging traffic. 4 hours is a perfect length, and with 4 people making up our tour the exchange of information was easy. Highly recommended.

I can’t speak highly enough of Helen from Ultimately Sydney — what an absolute gem! As an Australian myself, I thought I knew Sydney pretty well, but Helen blew me away with her depth of knowledge, fascinating stories, and passion for this beautiful city. She brought Sydney to life in a way I’ve never experienced before. Whether you’re a local looking to rediscover your own backyard or a traveler seeing the city for the first time, a bus tour with Helen and the Ultimately Sydney team is an absolute must. The tour was comfortable, well-paced, and packed with insights and hidden gems that you’d never find on your own. Helen is 100% worth her weight in gold — warm, professional, engaging, and truly one of a kind. Thanks for such a fantastic day out, Helen! I’ll be recommending your tours to everyone I know.

My wife and I took the Taste of Sydney tour, and we had a terrific time! Our host Helen picked us up at our hotel, and we were off to 5 different venues across Sydney (Seafood Market, Lotus @ Barangaroo, Harry's Cafe De Wheels, Moon Shiner Gin Distillery, Handpicked Wines Cellar Door). The food and drink and each venue were amazing, but the best part was hearing Helen regale us with the history and local knowledge of Sydney along the way. Highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Sydney. Helen was a fantastic tour guide and host. Exceeded our expectations!!!
