In the heart of Montepulciano, this immersive tasting experience invites you into a historic winery where centuries of tradition come to life. An expert sommelier will guide you through the magnificent underground cellar, a sixteenth-century labyrinth of vaulted chambers and ancient galleries believed to date back to Etruscan times. As you walk through these extraordinary spaces, you will hear the fascinating history of the estate and uncover the secrets behind the production of some of Tuscany’s most renowned wines. This journey blends archaeology, tradition, and enology, offering an unforgettable window into the region’s cultural heritage.
Your experience continues with an exploration of the winery’s private collection of historic bottles before reaching the Etruscan tomb preserved beneath the estate, an exceptional treasure rarely accessible to visitors. The tour concludes with a guided tasting of four distinguished Montepulciano wines, each paired with typical Tuscan products that enhance their flavors. While you enjoy selections such as Rosso di Montepulciano and Nobile di Montepulciano, your sommelier will explain the distinctive characteristics that make these wines admired across the world. Water, wine, and a platter of traditional specialties are included to complete this authentic Tuscan tasting journey.

Inspiring. Enchanting. Incredible. I will exhaust the adjectives and superlatives in describing our tour and tasting at De'Ricci. Start with the history. The wine cellars began in the time of the Etruscans. 800 years BC. The De'Ricci family expanded the cellars 1200 years ago. The steps down to the caves (or cellars) were constructed to accommodate horses bringing the harvest and barrels down to this space. Our tour guide made the experience so interesting and with a slice of humor. And after the tour, we were rewarded with the wine. Absolutely world class. Forget every preconceived notion you have about Italian wines. These wines were spectacular. We were fortunate to be greeted by the winemaker Nicolo. Wonderful man who absolutely enjoys what he does and is so steeped in the history and traditions of De'Ricci. He was so generous with his time to talk with us. We bought several bottles to enjoy during out three weeks in Italy, and my biggest regret is we did not buy a case to have shipped home. The wine was sublime. And each afternoon when we cracked a bottle, I remarked that it was better than I remembered. So, with huge enthusiasm, I highly recommend a tour and tasting at De'Ricci. AND BRING SEVERAL BOTTLES BACK!

This is one of my favorite Italian experiences so far. Emilio was our guide. He was very knowledgeable and kept the tour interesting the entire time. The winery is gorgeous and the tasting was phenomenal. I wouldn’t want to leave Tuscany without having taken this tour.

Well worth the several person recommendations to visit! You must book in advance otherwise you may be out of luck. Incredible cantina and caves where the wine is made and stored. 1300’s origin in continuous operation. Tour was amazing! Husband and wife tour guides are packed full of details, history and just overall amazing stories. Tour is well worth the wait to actually begin the wine tastings. Highly rated wines! Beautiful property with great people.

This wine tour at De’ Ricci Cantine Storiche was an absolute highlight of our time in Montepulciano! The history here is fascinating – you can feel the centuries of winemaking tradition as you explore. But the real showstopper is the cavern where the wines are stored. It’s absolutely breathtaking! The ancient stone chambers create such a dramatic and atmospheric setting that you’ll remember long after your visit. We did the wine tasting tour, and wow – the wines were truly exceptional. Each pour was delicious, and the experience of tasting them in such a stunning historic setting made it even more special. If you’re in Montepulciano and appreciate great wine, incredible history, and jaw-dropping architecture, De’ Ricci Cantine Storiche is absolutely unmissable. Highly recommend!

We had a very fun Sangiovese wine tasting experience here and ordered wine to be shipped home. All bottles came 100% intact and were shipped rather quickly! We were there right during their harvest period and learned many things about their processes, and of course, the history of the winery. Very cool and would highly recommend!

This tour was such a cool way to learn some of the history in Montepulciano! Our tour guide was very informative although the wine tasting portion at the end was a little slow moving. My partner and I aren’t big red wine drinkers so it was fun to try something new that we otherwise probably wouldn’t have tried! The guide who led the wine tasting was so kind and answered many of our questions both wine and non-wine related! So glad we decided to do the tour and try something new!

The best part for me was walking from inside the shop, down, down,!down the steep staircase, through an old tunnel where you needed to bend slightly to pass through into the cavern where the massive, old wooden wine barrels were. Listening to the young man tell of the history of this place was also incredible. It used to be a prison and a shelter during world war two, some people lived there during this time in history, there was also a church.

Our wine tour was nothing short of exceptional! From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed with warm hospitality, setting the tone for an incredible experience. Our guide was absolutely outstanding—his deep knowledge of wine, combined with his passion for sharing it, made the tour both educational and engaging. He walked us through every step of the winemaking process, from vineyard to bottle, explaining everything in a way that was easy to understand yet incredibly insightful. We learned so much about the region’s winemaking traditions, grape varieties and the delicate art of aging wine. His enthusiasm was contagious, making the entire experience even more enjoyable. If you’re looking for a truly immersive and enriching wine experience, this is the place to be. Highly recommended!
