RYA Competent Crew Practical (Sail)

The RYA Competent Crew Practical (Sail) is a five-day, live-aboard course designed for complete beginners and anyone eager to become a confident, active crew member on a sailing yacht. Under the guidance of an RYA Senior Instructor and in small groups of no more than five students, you’ll learn entirely through hands-on experience—steering the yacht, setting sails, tying essential knots, keeping lookout, and taking part in all day-to-day tasks aboard. The training takes place along one of Spain’s most beautiful coastlines, where calm bays, scenic cliffs, and diverse sailing conditions provide the ideal environment for first-time sailors to build skills safely and progressively.

Based in Dénia, a town celebrated for its maritime heritage, charming fishing-village character, and UNESCO Creative City of Gastronomy designation, your week blends practical seamanship with a rich cultural backdrop. With four marinas, protected cruising grounds, and easy access to Jávea, Moraira, and Altea, the region offers variety and sheltered waters perfect for learning.
