Fantastic tour with Siva! He was very knowledge & gave a detailed factory tour. Tried a range of teas at the end & then paid for and did the field tour! Fantastic few hours spent here and highly recommend. If you only have time for one tour recommend the factory one - goes for around 50 minutes and both include tea tasting.
Joined the Halpewatte tea plantation tour and it genuinely felt worth the time and money. It’s not just standing around listening. We actually walked through the plantation, saw the stunning views, learned how the tea is grown and why only certain leaves are picked. We got to understand the whole journey from plant to factory in a way that stays in your head. The tour had a good balance. A bit of walking, a bit of learning, and enough space to just enjoy the surroundings and take photos. It didn’t feel rushed and it didn’t feel like they were dragging it out either. You actually get what you pay for here. Our guide, Darshani, made the experience even better. She explained things clearly, kept everyone comfortable and actually cared that we understood what we were seeing. You can tell she knows her work and enjoys sharing it. I left with a much deeper appreciation for Sri Lankan tea and a bunch of photos that actually look like a postcard. If you are visiting Ella and want something real and informative, this plantation tour is a solid choice. And if you can, request Darshani. She adds that extra value that makes a good tour feel memorable.

I had an amazing experience visiting the tea factory. It was fascinating to learn about the rich history of Ceylon tea and see how it’s made step by step. I even had the chance to wear a traditional SARI and try picking tea leaves myself — such a memorable and authentic experience! The staff (Dardhani)were friendly, knowledgeable, and made the visit very enjoyable. Highly recommended for anyone visiting Sri Lanka! 🌿🍃
We really enjoyed both the factory tour and the tea plantation and leaf picking. Both guides were very good, and passionate about their jobs. We first did the factory tour where the guide explained how tea planting started in Sri Lanka and then took us around the factory showing us the process of making tea leaves. We then took tour around the plantations and we had a great experience of picking tea leaves. Visiting this place is highly recommended if you’re in Ella, and it’s very close to the city.
