This adventure begins in Pipiriki with an exciting 55-minute jet boat ride up the Whanganui River, covering 32 km of breathtaking scenery. Along the way, you’ll travel through dramatic river gorges blanketed with lush native vegetation and towering tree ferns. On arrival at Mangapurua Landing, your guide will lead you on a relaxing 40-minute walk following the historic trail once used by early pioneers. Your destination is the iconic Bridge to Nowhere — a haunting yet beautiful reminder of a forgotten settlement, where you’ll pause for lunch and hear fascinating stories from your local guide.
The return journey combines excitement and serenity. You’ll enjoy a 22 km jet boat ride downstream, then switch to an unguided 2-hour canoe or kayak experience (minimum 2 participants required) for the final 10 km stretch back to Pipiriki. Along the way, you can stop to explore the riverbanks, enjoy the peaceful atmosphere, and soak in the untouched beauty of Whanganui National Park — a perfect blend of history, nature, and adventure.
