Embark on an extraordinary journey through time and taste at the world’s northernmost coastal museum, where the rich heritage of Arctic cod fishing and Northern Norwegian culture comes vividly to life. Begin your adventure on the first floor with The Skrei Fishing Trilogy, a guided tasting experience led by an expert storyteller who will awaken your senses with four distinctive flavors from Full Steam’s own kitchen. Savor the delicate smokiness of cod roe, discover the cultural significance of the prized Skrei cod, and experience the transformation from fish to stockfish—a trade cornerstone since the Viking Age. Conclude the tasting with the story of cod liver and its vital role in Arctic nutrition, learning how innovation and resourcefulness sustained generations through the long, dark winters. Each tasting element reveals a chapter in the enduring relationship between the sea, the people, and the traditions that define Northern Norway’s coastal communities.
Continue your journey to the upper floors, where immersive exhibitions illuminate the diverse layers of Arctic heritage. On the third floor, step into the world of the coastal Sami and explore their deep connection to the sea, their resilient traditions, and their timeless mythology surrounding the Northern Lights—believed to be living spirits dancing across the sky. Then ascend to the maritime exhibition on the fourth floor, where stories of fearless sailors and Arctic expeditions unfold through historic vessels, artifacts, and interactive displays. Wander freely afterward, savoring the chance to explore the museum at your own pace, enjoy a meal inspired by the northern seas, or raise a glass under the shimmering glow of the Aurora in the Northern Lights bar. This immersive experience is more than a museum visit—it is a celebration of culture, history, and the enduring spirit of those who have lived and thrived along Norway’s northern coast.

Beautiful restaurant right by scenic. The restaurant offers a chance to try whale and Reindeer meat. The food were all really delicious. Beautiful decorated dishes. Lovely service

Tobias was excellent! 2 of us from the US and 16 women from Germany. He switched from German to English and back again like frog on a lillypad! We were so pleased with his information and really enjoyed ourselves. The museum was great as well. We had a great time!

Tour was interesting but it was short and I’m not sure it was value for the money. I wouldn’t say this was a ‘must do’ activity in Tromso.

Had lunch here with my daughter on my trip to Tromsø. We both ordered reindeer burgers, and Mack beer, of course. Incredibly beautiful premises, and very good food. Good service and friendly staff. Will be back here, that's for sure.

Loved it ! Came here after flying in from Frankfurt and had a lovely late lunch with fresh salmon, cod and salad. Free tap water. Prices are high as everywhere here around the harbour. Sun stays long here in the afternoon...

I enjoyed the tour and seeing all the photos and memorabilia. The tour guide was knowledgeable and helpful. I think his name was Eric. I was the only person for my tour so I got his undivided attention. The tasting tour was quite unique. It was well worth the price.

A decent "pub" like place to eat and/or drink in Tromso. We decided to give this place a go since it offered up some interesting dishes! Overall it was an "okay" experience, with the service and atmosphere rating slightly above the quality of the food. We started with the platter that offered up a variety of their starters, including whale jerky, cos tongue, caviar and garlic shrimp. Probably the favourite out of the selection was the cod tongue, since it was dried and breaded, so it tasted like any good fried and breaded things. The whale jerky was what got us interested, and, personally... I think whale is an acquired taste? Hard to describe, but my experience with it is that, it had an unexpected taste? It was overly fishy, but also wasn't fishy? I know that might not have made sense, but see for yourself if you're keen! For the mains, we all tried different mains and shared it. We got: the clams/mussels; reindeer burger; whale steak and the cod. Again, the whale steak was very different to what I was expecting, it was much "meatier" than expected, tastes more gamey/meaty than "fishy" the mussels were ok... Nothing too special and the cod was a bit dry. The reindeer burger was surprisingly good and, personally, was my favourite. Overall, the food was ok - a good experience to try these local delicacies whilst in Tromso/Norway. The price was maybe on the higher side? For context, we had a very nice lunch in Mathallen, ordered 5 mains with a bottle of bubbles to share and it was roughly the same price.. whereas we ordered 4 mains, a started and 1 glass of wine and a beer (same amount of people) at this place... Overall, I think it's worth a visit if you're curious to try some local delicacies! You'll still come out of it full and feeling okay!

Definitely would recommend this restaurant! Cool atmosphere, very friendly staff, tasty food! We ordered caviar for a starter because neither of us had ever tried it. It was a little to fishy for us, but we're glad we gave it a shot. For mains, I got the whale steak and really enjoyed it. It was similar to a beef steak, just more tender and less meaty of a taste. My wife got the salmon and it was phenomenal. We ordered the cheesecake for dessert and it hit the spot to close the meal. Thanks so much!
