The Catacombs of St. Callixtus are part of the expansive Callistian complex, spanning about 30 hectares between the Via Appia Antica, Via Ardeatina, and Via delle Sette Chiese in Rome. This site is home to various funerary areas and catacombs. Dating back to the late 2nd century, the catacombs began with private Christian tombs and a cemetery managed by the Roman Church. Named after Deacon Callistus I, who was appointed by Pope Zephyrinus to oversee the cemetery, the complex was later expanded by Pope Callistus I, who made it the official burial site of the Church.
This tour takes you through the Ancient Appian Way Regional Park, one of Europe’s largest urban protected areas. The park immerses you in the history of the Appian Way, a 4th century BC Roman road that stretches over 500 km from Rome to Brindisi in southern Italy. More than just a military route, the Appian Way holds many secrets, with beautiful villas and historical sites along the way, including the Circus of Maxentius and the Mausoleum of Cecilia Metella.
Our Appian Way E-bike Tour is one of the most captivating experiences we offer, introducing you to the grandeur of this ancient road and its rich blend of history, culture, and art.
