Chichen Itza, one of the most iconic archaeological sites in the world, is a magnificent Mayan ruins complex located in Mexico’s Yucatán Peninsula. This ancient city, which flourished between 600 A.D. and the 13th century, spans over 6.5 square kilometers and offers a remarkable glimpse into the grandeur of Mayan civilization. The site is dominated by the towering pyramid known as El Castillo or the Temple of Kukulkan — an extraordinary example of Mayan architectural brilliance and astronomical precision. Visitors can also explore the Great Ball Court, the Temple of the Warriors, and the Wall of Skulls, all adorned with intricate stone carvings that depict the fascinating history, mythology, and rituals of the ancient Mayans.

At night, Chichen Itza transforms into a magical spectacle with its mesmerizing light and sound show, which highlights the geometry and symbolism of its ancient structures. Recognized as one of the New Seven Wonders of the World, the pyramid of Kukulkan stands as a proud testament to the ingenuity of the Mayan civilization. Conveniently located between Valladolid and Mérida, about 120 km from Mérida, this UNESCO World Heritage Site continues to attract travelers from around the globe eager to witness the enduring legacy of one of history’s greatest cultures.

My trip to Chichen Itzá was one of the most amazing experiences of my life! I have been learning about this site for decades and I was not prepared for seeing it with my own eyes. When I cleared the forest and saw the pyramid for the first time it was an overwhelming experience. I was so moved it took my breath away. No photos or TV show can prepare you for how it looks in person. My whole time walking around and seeing the things I've only seen on TV and in books was so profound. It was a dream come true for me and I have been looking forward to going to that site for many years. I was amazed at how small the crowd was. At no point did I feel I was around too many people. There were tour groups of 20-30 but everyone was so spread out you kind of felt you had the place all to yourself. I've heard stories of crowds at other sites that were so bad that it was claustrophobic. It was not like that at all. I got to see everything I wanted to see and always had an up front and close look to take pictures or just stare at the amazing stonework. I recommend going 100% and I believe everyone should go at least once!

Important anthropological site. Unfortunate that you can't climb it now. Visited the ball field and observatory when there. The size and scope of the site are amazing. You can see the grand pyramid from miles away.

Visiting Chichén Itzá and the pyramids was an unforgettable experience. The site is incredibly impressive and powerful — standing in front of such ancient history feels truly special. The pyramids are breathtaking, and the entire area is well maintained and organized. Walking around, learning about the Mayan civilization, and seeing these iconic structures in real life was fascinating. It’s definitely a must-see place that leaves a strong impression and stays in your memory long after the visit.

Beautiful archeological area with so much history. They open at 8am, we got there at 7:30 and organized a private guide. Saw the sights before the crowds of tourist and busses arrived.

Simply amazing. Terrific history and a great guide can make this new Seven Wonders of the World a day of discovery. Just amazing. Bring sunscreen and walking shoes. It's not that huge that those with limited mobility cannot enjoy. It also has a ton of local venders for some great souvenirs.
