Explore the historic charm and wine heritage of the Melnik region on a full-day tour from Sofia. Melnik, Bulgaria’s smallest town and a declared architectural reserve, is famous for its wines and rich history. Settled by the Thracian tribe Medi and later by the Slavs, the town flourished under the First Bulgarian Empire and became the capital of Despot Alexius Slav’s principality in 1209. By the late 18th century, Melnik had 1,300 houses, seventy churches, and a population of around 20,000.
Your day begins with an 8:30 AM pick-up from Sofia, followed by a scenic 2.5-hour drive through mountains, valleys, and river canyons. Visit Rozhen Monastery and enjoy views of Melnik’s stunning sandstone formations.
Next, explore a historic wine merchant’s house in Melnik, enjoy lunch, and taste local wines in the private cellar. The tour concludes at Villa Melnik, one of Bulgaria’s top wine cellars, where a family-guided tasting awaits. Return to Sofia after a day filled with history, culture, and exceptional wine.

One of the first Wineries in the Region of Melnik! Beautiful View of the Struma Valley, Truly Excellent Wines, accompanied with a scenic wine tour(in the vineyard and inside the wine cellar/cave). They have a venue for big groups, so- Birthdays, Weddings or just a different and educational type of Team Building- It's absolutely perfect! The team there really works hard for the enjoyment of the visitors in every single aspect. R E C O M M E N D E D !

Visiting Villa Melnik was an unforgettable experience. The wine tasting was exceptional, but what truly made it special was the guided presentation. Our host shared the family’s story, the philosophy behind their wines, and the winemaking process with so much passion and knowledge. It felt personal, authentic, and genuinely engaging. The place itself is beautiful. The views over the vineyards and hills are stunning, and the whole winery has a relaxed, welcoming vibe that makes you want to stay longer. Out of all the wines we tried, my favorites were the Cabernet Sauvignon (full-bodied and rich) and their dessert wine (sweet but perfectly balanced — absolutely divine). Definitely worth a visit if you’re in the area!

Amazing experience! We did the wine tour - it was very interesting to learn how the whole wine making process is done! At the end we tasted different delicious wine!

We went on a guided tour which was really interesting, with a lot of attention to the detail and learned a lot about the wine making process and the history of this wine region. The wine tasting package was not fixed to given wines, but tailored to the preferences of the guests and we were able to choose which wines to try. The place itself is surrounded by magnificent nature, the wineyards and beautiful mountains on the horizon and a small pond with coi carps on the premises. All this ensures to make you present and take all the tranquility and beauty this region has to offer.

Fantastic wine experience! We did the tour of the production rooms and tasting of the wines accompanied by the fruit and nut platter. Staff were incredibly knowledgeable and warm. We also caught the sunset over the beautifully located winery in the autumn setting. Would highly recommend, best winery in the region!

Winery was excellent, great wines and very good and knowledgeable guide. Lunch was ok, Monastery visit not that interesting. The biggest challenge was our driver not speaking English so had to rely on translation a lot.
