Activity Provider: Walks In Europe
Customer Reviews
Ionut

I visited the Grand Bazaar with high expectations, but the experience was disappointing. Many sellers are very aggressive and pushy. It’s difficult to walk calmly without being constantly pressured to enter shops or make a purchase. The atmosphere feels stressful rather than enjoyable. A large number of products appear to be low quality or fake, yet they are presented as “premium” and sold at very high prices — in some cases more expensive than original branded products in Europe. Prices are clearly inflated, and intense negotiation feels unavoidable. What surprised me most is that products in modern shopping malls in Istanbul are often cheaper than similar items in the Bazaar — and those are authentic, fixed-price, and clearly labeled. Overall, it felt more like a tourist trap than an authentic shopping experience. Visitors should compare prices carefully and be prepared for very aggressive sales tactics.

Very crowded and you will get everything including copy brands.

It’s not something you see every day! It’s a place where you can find whatever you want, need, or wish for. All you need is time and money! Considering the culture, note that bargaining is expected, so don’t be shy, start negotiating if you want to! Visiting the Grand Bazaar is not just a shopping experience, it’s much more than that!

The Grand Bazaar in Istanbul is massive and chaotic, a maze of vaulted alleys filled with carpets, lanterns, jewelry, and spices. The first thing you notice is the mix of scents, and add the stifling crowds and constant calls from shopkeepers, and it can feel overwhelming. Prices are high and bargaining is expected. It’s not the most comfortable stop, but for atmosphere and history, the Grand Bazaar is an experience you won’t forget.

You MUST see the Grand Bazaar when in Turkey. The sheer size of the Grand Bazaar is awe-inspiring—it’s one of the largest and oldest covered markets in the world, with over 4,000 shops spread across a maze of alleys. You may feel extremly overwhelmed at first but you get the hang of it. Just keep track of which entrance you came in so that you don't become turned around as it is so big you could easily become lost. Lots of different items for sale. The best places to get your goods are in the shops just outside of the bazaar or the markets in Eminonu as the prices are much cheaper and you can usually barter them down a lot more too. Don’t forget to indulge in a cup of Turkish tea offered by shopkeepers—it’s a gesture of hospitality that makes the experience even more memorable.
