Cricova Winery in Moldova offers an extraordinary experience with wine tasting inside a real underground wine city, complete with wide streets, warehouses, and elegant tasting rooms stretching across 120 kilometers. Known as the “Grand Cellars of Cricova,” this labyrinth is home to Moldova’s National Oenotheque, showcasing a remarkable collection of around 1.3 million bottles, including rare treasures like the “Jerusalem of Easter” vintage 1902 and the liqueur “Jan Becher” of the same year, alongside 158 brands from Burgundy, Moselle, Tokay, and the Rhine. Beyond its impressive wine heritage, the tour also includes a visit to Orheiul Vechi, a UNESCO heritage site of grades V and VII, where visitors can explore a complex of historical and architectural monuments set against the breathtaking backdrop of the Răut River’s winding path, making this journey a perfect blend of history, culture, and world-class winemaking.

Favorite winery out if three that I visited in Moldova. Great tour and well speaking English guy. He introduced himself as Michael. Beautiful tasting rooms. Definitely worth the visit. Entrance fee is a little pricy (400 MDL) without tasting. There is a nice restaurant and free WiFi at reception/ticket desk.

The bad services started at reception where I was ignored by the receptionist when trying to pay and check in. Asking for a toilet was a impossible task. Tried asking 3 people who were not interested to show me. Our tour was 90 minutes. It was very rushed to get through everything and we were pushed to move along by the tour guide which was very impatient all the time. Hardly able to take decent pictures and absorb the experience which we paid €45.00 for tasting 4 wines. Again the tasting was so rushed and then the tour guide disappeared for a long tome while we all sat and drank our wine. Coming back to present a red wine and left again. I got the feeling that the tour guide did not know much about the wines or were not interested to explain much about it. He was more interested to sit on his phone outside the tasting room than talking to the guests while tasting the wine. I personally think the experience could have been more personal and being in touch with your guests. Even at reception the pricing was outdated and did not correspond with what I had to pay.

Cricova and the famous underground wineries in Moldova The Cricova cellars are the second largest winery in the world and therefore unique on a global scale. The cellars cover over 53 hectares, creating a true underground city, with streets, traffic lights, and road signs. It comprises 120 km of underground corridors, 80 km of which are used for wine storage. The complex is so large that we travel around it by electric car. For those interested, a tasting is available after the tour. Tour prices start at €20, with tastings included from €40. It's worth booking our tour in advance, as places sell out quickly. If you're in Moldova, this is a place worth visiting if you're in the area.

Very nice and unique place, we rode on a mini trains through the winery, our tour guide was amazing. I recommend the tour. We also had the wine degustation, but I had better wines, so I was not that much amazed from it. Maybe just the selection was poor. Anyway, i really recommend it.
