This flight tour offers the most comprehensive and breathtaking views of Denali, providing an unforgettable perspective of the mountain and surrounding Alaska Range. Weather permitting, the flight path takes guests up to around and within half a mile of Denali along the famous Wickersham Wall, the north face feature where many clients feel as if they could reach out and touch the mountain. Flights depart from a private airstrip ten miles south of the park entrance, allowing for easy access to both sides of the range and the ability to meander along the spine for optimal visibility. Guests are treated to sweeping views of the Muldrow Glacier, which spans thirty-nine miles and has been observed surging at four feet per hour, a rare phenomenon not seen for over sixty-four years.
The tour continues to the south side of the mountain, passing by the famous climbing route to Denalis summit and offering glimpses of climber activity along the way. All seats are window seats aboard twin-engine Piper Navajo and Chieftain aircraft seating six to eight passengers, ensuring every guest has excellent views. Pilot Maggie was very good and we got great photos of the Alaskan Mountains, however not great visibility from 2nd row due to wing and engine and really cold air blows directly on you. You need to dress really warm for the flight as I was told the other plane did not have any heating.
We had a wonderful time. Due to weather conditions we did not get to see Denali. However they were honest and upfront and gave us the option to reschedule, get our money back or continue. I am so glad we continued as we got to see beautiful glaciers and scenery. Our pilot was very informative and entertaining. I highly recommend Denali air. You will not regret going. We would definitely book this again next time we go!!!
We had a wonderful flight! The weather wasn’t cooperating for a Denali mountain view, but we didn’t have time to reschedule. Our awesome pilot, Chris, was very honest about the conditions and let us decide if we wanted to see some other sights. I’m so glad we decided to go up. The entire area is just gorgeous from the air. I’m not even disappointed we couldn’t see Denali mountain on the flight. We saw so many other amazing things. 100% worth it.
Flew the Denali Peaks with Bob. The flight was awesome!! He got so close to the glaciers and the peaks, it felt like you could reach out and touch. It was a last minute tour and it was well worth the money. Bob was a fantastic pilot and the views were spectacular. We did this and a helicopter glacier landing tour, but this plane flight was by far our favorite. There were 5 of us and all would recommend anyone take this tour. Bob and Denali Air thanks for a great tour that we’ll never forget.
We had a wonderful experience! We flew an 8 PM tour in late May that was incredible. Their planes are twin-engine which allows higher altitude than a single engine. The scenery is so beautiful, there are not enough adjectives to convey the breathtaking mountains and glaciers. Everyone has a window, and the view out the windows on the opposite side works well too. There were a few clouds when we flew, but we flew under the clouds to see the dramatic mountains and glaciers on the approach to Denali, and both under and over to see the majestic highest mountain in North America. Highly recommended!
