Starting from Brașov, this mountain excursion follows one of the most spectacular routes in Europe—the Transfăgărășan Road—open seasonally from July to October. The journey climbs through dramatic Carpathian landscapes toward Bâlea Lake, reached after a scenic drive of roughly two hours, where glacial waters and rugged peaks set the stage for a day in the high mountains.

From Bâlea Lake, the itinerary continues with a guided hike toward Capra Lake, offering a route that blends alpine terrain with sweeping views of the surrounding ridgelines. Depending on weather conditions and group preference, more experienced hikers may extend the ascent toward Vânătoarea lui Buteanu Peak, reaching an elevation of 2,507 meters, while others may opt for a more relaxed lakeside walk to absorb the tranquil setting at a gentler pace.

The trek typically lasts between four and five hours, allowing ample time to experience the shifting landscapes of the Făgăraș Mountains. After the hike, participants can unwind with an optional meal at the Bâlea Lake Hotel, set against the striking backdrop of the alpine basin, where mountain silence and crisp air define the atmosphere.

During the off-season, from November to June, when the Transfăgărășan is closed, the experience shifts to an alternative route through the Făgăraș Mountains via the scenic Valea Sâmbetei valley. This seasonal variation ensures that the journey remains accessible year-round while continuing to showcase the raw beauty and changing character of Romania’s highest mountain range.
