This was the highlight of our week while in Cancun. From the moment we checked in till the time we left we had a great time with the crew. The lobster was cooked perfectly.

Jolly Roger Pirate Ship Dinner & Show – A Family Crowd-Pleaser, But Not for Everyone Visited: July 2025 | Location: Cancun, Mexico | Duration: ~3 hours This pirate-themed dinner show aboard a retrofitted “ship-of-the-line” was something my wife was excited about, and I can see the appeal for families and groups looking for high-energy entertainment. That said, it’s definitely not my kind of experience, so here’s a fair and balanced breakdown. The Experience: Upon boarding, you’re immersed immediately in full-on dinner theater. Staff stay in character throughout the voyage, playing the part of swashbuckling pirates with impressive dedication. My family really enjoyed it—the antics, music, and performance had them laughing and engaged from the start. However, be aware: This is a booze-heavy environment. From the moment you board, free-flowing drinks are part of the package, and the energy reflects that. The experience lasts around three hours, which felt long to me. The ship moves more than expected, even in calm seas. If you’re prone to seasickness, it may not be ideal. Cautions and Cons: Some elements crossed the line for me, personally: Actors point (prop) guns directly at audience members during the show. While clearly theatrical, it struck me as uncomfortable and unnecessary. Loud explosions and sound effects occur multiple times. Not ideal for those with sensory sensitivities or young kids who might be startled. The ship is showing its age—visible corrosion and general wear give it a less-than-pristine feel. It seemed seaworthy, but it’s a far cry from polished. Food & Service: The meal was fine—nothing special, but serviceable for a themed show. Staff were friendly and kept the energy high, which is impressive considering the duration. Photos are taken throughout, and yes, they’ll try to sell them to you. Cash tips are aggressively pursued at the end. The website does say to bring cash, and I wish we hadn’t forgotten—there are no digital alternatives (no Venmo, card readers, etc.), which led to an awkward exit. Final Verdict: If you enjoy high-energy dinner theater, don’t mind audience participation, and are traveling with kids who love pirates—this might be a hit. It was definitely more my family’s vibe than mine, and I was glad they had fun. But for me, between the gunplay, sound levels, rough seas, and drawn-out timing, I wouldn’t do it again. Tip: Bring cash for tipping, and seasick meds if you’re prone to motion sensitivity.

We LOVED the Jolly Roger Pirate show in Cancun and would highly recommend it to anybody here. We booked it not knowing exactly what to expect, and were pleasantly surprised at what a fun crew, shows, band, dinner, unlimited drinks, and experience it would be. The crew seemed like professionals from a major production company, and the views of the bright turquoise waters and sunset were amazing. We aren’t easy to surprise with thrills, but this was amazing!!

Ok, let’s be frank, these things are goofy, but the kids love it and us adults can sit back and have a rum punch or five with no stress, and this one exceeded my expectations . That is what this is, the energy and talent of this crew is off the chart. The band guitarists were the phenomenal and even the Shaman was shredding it at the end. The Chicken really blew my mind (mind you after 3 rum punches and a drink that was probably not mine), but even my sober wife agreed, two thumbs up and a wooden leg to this Pirate Ship!! Customer service call out: my transport was a hour late they some how found out and gave me our family’s photo and awesome frame on the house, wow❤️

First time taking the trip, would love to do the trip again. The whole crew was polite and helpful and very engaging with the customers (pirate crew). The food and drinks were plenty.
