Campanile di San Marco – Venice’s soaring icon (May 11, 2025) The Campanile di San Marco stands tall and proud in the heart of Piazza San Marco, a 98-meter red-brick bell tower that’s one of Venice’s most beloved landmarks. Rebuilt in 1912 after the original collapsed, its simple, elegant design, white loggia, green pyramidal roof, and golden Archangel Gabriel weathervane make it instantly recognizable. On a sunny May day, the blue sky made the tower glow, and the piazza buzzed with life below. Climb to the top (elevator available) for the best 360° views of Venice — the basilica, Doge’s Palace, lagoon, and rooftops are breathtaking. A must-see and must-photograph highlight of the city!

Simple experience, spectacular views. It offers panoramic views across Venice, the lagoon and out towards the islands - and because it stands alone in the square, you get clear sightlines in every direction. Helpful signs on each side point out key landmarks, and the safety barrier is unobtrusive enough to still get good photos. Access is by lift (no stairs), which makes it quick and easy. We pre-booked, though the actual visit at the top is fairly short - we comfortably took it in within 10 minutes, plus a few extra minutes for the lift up and down. Efficient and very worthwhile for the expansive perspective.

St. Mark's Campanile towers 99 meters over the square, offering unbeatable 360-degree views of Venice, the lagoon, and Alps on clear days. Rebuilt in 1912 after collapse, the elevator ride is quick and easy—no stairs! Spot the Basilica's domes, Grand Canal, and islands below. It's windy up top, but exhilarating. Tickets around 10 euros, timed entry recommended to skip lines. Pro tip: Go at opening or sunset for golden light; avoid midday crowds. Pairs perfectly with square explorations. A short but spectacular ascent!

A must-see in Venice! The Campanile is hands down the best spot for 360-degree panoramic views. Terracotta rooftops stretch out beneath you, creating a sea of colour, while the deep turquoise lagoon is simply breathtaking. The elevator ride is smooth, and the signage helps orient you to key landmarks. From the viewing platform, you enjoy unparalleled perspectives of the Doge’s Palace, St Mark’s Basilica, the entirety of St Mark’s Square, and the islands across the water. It truly conveys the city’s unique geography.

It’s really nice being able to see so much of Venice from the top of the bell tower— the views are definitely a highlight and really beautiful. We paid €40 to go up, which felt a bit pricey, but overall the experience was still worth it. It was raining the day we visited, yet we still enjoyed the panoramic views over the city. A memorable stop in Venice!
