The city of Matera, European Capital of Culture 2019, is renowned not only for its breathtaking landscapes and architectural wonders but also for its rich culinary traditions, filled with distinctive aromas and flavors. Our immersive tour offers a unique opportunity to explore one of Matera's oldest and most cherished culinary practices: the art of bread making.
The experience begins with an introduction to a family owned bakery that has been a cornerstone of the community for four generations. Guests will learn about the traditional methods that have been passed down through the years, including the use of the finest local semolina and a carefully cultivated yeast base that defines the bread's distinctive flavor.
The workshop itself delves into the bread making process from mixing the ingredients to the crucial leavening stage, shaping the dough, and finally stamping the iconic mark that characterizes the famous Bread of Matera. During this hands on session, guests will have the chance to shape their own loaves, learning the precise techniques that create the bread's unique form. After the bread is baked, participants can take home their freshly made loaf as a delicious souvenir of the experience.

We booked two experiences in Matera through Crea. Rosangela was very prompt and helpful in responding to our inquiries and our trip was certainly enhanced by what she arranged for us. The rock churches tour and walk around the Murgia plateau with Antonio was perfect. We also visited a local bakery where we learned a lot about bread making and Materan traditions, although that experience was less hands-on than we had expected.

A wonderful private walking tour through Matera with Nico. He was very informative. It was so interesting to learn the history of the captivating city of Matera. Thankyou

We had a wonderful ceramics experience with Crea. Rosangela was really helpful, setting up the experience as well as pointing us to local authentic restaurants. Thankuou

I was looking for contacts to plan activities for a trip to Matera with a group of university students, and through word of mouth, I found Crea Experience. What can I say, except thank you? Thank you for the emotions we experienced, for the steps taken alongside the guides, for the notes of the concert organized in underground locations usually closed to the public, for the cheesemaking activity, and, in general, for the sensitivity and thoughtfulness that turn a trip into something unforgettable. A heartfelt thanks to Erasmo and his entire team!

Today we enjoyed a very special private walking tour on the Murgia plateau within the Park of the Rock Churches with our guide Antonio, who easily adjusted it taylor-made to the interests and preferences of my teenage son (nature) and me (culture/churches). Thanks for the very pleasant afternoon experience, Antonio! And thanks to you, as well, Rosangela, for arranging this on a rather short notice!
