The Glacier Lagoon Jökulsárlón and its surrounding glacial landscape offer a truly unique and unforgettable experience. This natural wonder is fed by icebergs from Vatnajökull, the largest ice cap in Iceland. The lagoon is home to the striking Diamond Beach, where black basalt icebergs rest on the shore, creating a constantly changing and mesmerizing scene. As the ice breaks away from the melting glacier, it drifts through the lagoon toward the ocean, forming a landscape that is always moving and shifting. Along the way, the tour includes visits to carefully chosen spots on the South Coast such as the stunning Fjallsárlón Glacier Lagoon, a possible bonus stop if time permits, the hidden Stjórnarfoss waterfall, the fascinating Seljalandsfoss waterfall where you can walk behind the cascading water, and the charming village of Vík with its black sand beach and impressive Reynisdrangar sea stacks.
Located about 380 kilometers from the capital in the southeast, the Glacier Lagoon tour is the longest day tour offered, lasting approximately fourteen hours. Despite the long travel time, the journey is well worth it for the incredible natural beauty and unique landscapes you will experience. This tour is an excellent opportunity to witness some of Iceland’s most iconic and breathtaking sights while enjoying a well-rounded exploration of the South Coast. It combines impressive glaciers, waterfalls, and coastal scenery into a comprehensive adventure that captures the essence of Iceland’s wild and stunning environment.

Well worth the 5+ hour drive from the airport. Amazing up-close views of glaciers and seals. Experienced tour guides take you out and explain everything. Felt very safe and the views are indescribable. You even get to hold a piece of glacier in the boat. Well worth the money! I didn’t want the tour to end.

Our experience was wonderful. The scenery itself was breathtaking, and being able to get that close to the glaciers, while also seeing seals and other natural wildlife, was unforgettable. Our tour guide and Zodiac driver was so friendly and pleasant. He provided much information about Iceland, the glaciers, wildlife, and also answered my many questions of this fascinating country. I felt completely safe and cared for during the tour.

Decided to go for the Amphibian tour and it turned out to be very nice. Still get to see the icebergs fairly close on the lake, and the tour guide explains some things, and you get to ask questions if you're lucky and they're not too busy with others. A quick 35min trip out and back, and you can hold a piece of ice like a fish, if you want. I found it a bit cheeky that there was a sign encouraging tipping your tour guide if you liked it. Tipping is not really a thing in Iceland because people get paid well enough, and if the tour guides don't, then for the money they charge the visitors surely means the company owners and living the rich life, and could and should raise the salaries of the workers.

When planning our trip, we knew we would hit the national park. However we debated about the boat tour. After the trip there is no debate, book it! We did the 40 minute amphibian tour. That was just enough time to see it from the water from a totally different perspective. Our driver and guide were both fantastic! We learned a little glacier history and facts. Most importantly we got to weave in and out of the icebergs and get some fantastic views. Make sure to dress warm. On the water is much cooler than on the shore. There is tons of parking. They have three lots, so choose the one that works for you.You will pay for it.

Amazing and beautiful! You'll find many options for visiting the icebergs and glacier on the lake. We took the zodiac tour, which was AMAZING! We had close up encounters with icebergs, seals and the glacier. I'd highly recommend one of the tours, although you can easily see and photograph the icebergs from the shore too. Don't miss Diamond Beach while you're hear too. This is a beautiful bonus while in the area.
