After boarding our Superjeeps in Reykjavik we cross fertile South Iceland farmlands opening up to grand views of Hekla volcanos snow covered top. Heklas next eruption is long overdue and expected at any time so you might just catch the show. Since Icelands human settlement in the ninth century Heklas many eruptions have ranged from small tourist attractions to explosive disasters. Hekla has long been regarded as the entrance to Hell for damned souls. Conditions permitting we may make it up onto the volcanos eruptive ridge high above sea level where the air is crisp and the views are incomparable. Pushing deeper into Icelands eruptive interior we take in and touch scenery so unreal it is repeatedly used for otherworldly Hollywood films.
When we arrive in Landmannalaugar there are opportunities to hike or dip in Icelands most famous natural hot pool or both. After enjoying the geothermal waters we head north through breathtaking landscapes with a stop at Gjain known for its cinematic scenery before driving towards Reykjavik. This journey combines adventure nature and Icelandic legend offering an unforgettable experience across some of the countrys most dramatic and otherworldly terrain.

Michael

Learned to ski on Hekla in the Seventies. We were towed up by snow mobile. Slept in tents. The lava field was so sharp it sliced up my boots and even one of my skis.

Visible to us from the road 1. It wasn't planned, maybe in the future. Such Japanese Fuji stands out on the horizon. Majestic.

We went to the Volcano Crater which was around 10 minutes before you'd arrive at the Google maps location. Doable but exhausting short hike to the top. Bring good shoes.

I love to visit and watch the beautiful sceneries of Iceland!

It was impossible to reach the summit as the wind was unbearable and ash was blowing! Was only able to reach the slope of the volcano at about 1000m elevation mark in my 4x4. Even walking to the summit was impossible. The permanent white "hood" that covers the top of the volcano is where the inferno is that consists of fog, rain, snow, blowing ash and extremely stormy winds of up to 100km/h.
