According to Hellenic myth, the city of Corinth was founded by Corinthos, a descendant of the Sun god Helios. Alternatively, some myths suggest it was founded by the goddess Ephyra, the daughter of the Titan Oceanus, which is why the city was also known as Ephyra in ancient times. Ancient Corinth, the original City of Corinth, was established in the 10th century BCE and quickly grew into one of the largest and most prosperous cities in ancient Greece. It was renowned for being the wealthiest port in the region, strategically located between the Aegean and Ionian Seas, making it a vital trade hub.
In 44 BCE, Corinth was re-founded by Julius Caesar as a Roman colony, solidifying its importance within the Roman Empire. Its transformation into a Roman city brought further prosperity and expansion. Centuries later, Corinth became a key site for early Christianity. The Apostle Paul visited Corinth, where he worked and established a flourishing Christian church. Paul’s time in Corinth led to the writing of two letters, now part of the New Testament, known as 1 Corinthians and 2 Corinthians, which continue to shape Christian teachings today. The city's rich history, from its mythological origins to its pivotal role in early Christianity, makes it an iconic site in both ancient and religious history.

Day 1 After a 10 night cruise our two days spent with "Private Greek Tours" is the most talked about and the highlight of the vacation. Our driver "Dominic" we met at 8 am the day of disembarkation at the port of Piraeus in Athens, the start was a ferry ride to Aegina for the day and Dominic was terrific and full of information about the area and answered any questions we had. My wife wanted to go for a swim in the Saronic gulf and Dominic took us to the perfect beach area, and then off to a local lunch venue and the hunt for pistachios. We concluded the day with a ferry ride back to Piraeus and our hotel, we made plans for our pickup at 8 am at the hotel from "Private Greece Tours" and Dominic. Day 2 Our driver was bang on time at 8 am to pick us up at the hotel and whisk off to the Acropolis, we had "Private Greece Tours" arrange for a private guide for our time at the Acropolis and the guide Nikos brought the area to life with his explanations and historic knowledge. We did "Athens Best & Sounio Full Day Tour", this was a great way to take in the Athens highlights and beyond. Our driver (Dominic) had us feeling safe and relaxed the entire time from day 1, he managed to make all our wishes happen. We enjoyed the ability to change any part of the tour to meet our wants, my wife had a spontaneous request to turn around while going down the highway to return to a local playground and Dominic did this safely and she got to play. Our lunch venue recommended by Dominic was spot on, a local seafood restaurant was terrific. Dominic was always willing to take photos for us if we stopped along the tour, we went to the Temple of Poseidon which was a self guided tour and one of the best areas we enjoyed. We concluded our day with a drive back to our hotel and had to say till next time, we will be back and make "Private Greece Tours" part of our time in Greece. Thanks Nikos and team Wayne and Stephanie British Columbia, Canada

We’ve been using Private Greek Tours every time we visit Athens for over 10 years, and they never disappoint! Their drivers are always knowledgeable, personable, and fluent in English, which makes every tour smooth and enjoyable. On our most recent full-day tour with Tolis, we had an incredible experience. He gave us the freedom to adjust our schedule as we wished and took us to a wonderful local restaurant off the beaten path that was absolutely amazing. He picked us up at the cruise terminal in a new, clean, and comfrtable van that was updated to include extra steps and a handrail to easy entry and exit. This was extremely helpful to our older passengers. In just eight hours, we visited the Acropolis, Ancient Agora, Lycabettus Hill, and the Plaka, witnessed the Changing of the Guards, enjoyed a driving tour of other key sites, had a relaxing sit-down meal, and ended the day at a famous baklava bakery. We made instant friendships with Tolis and spent the day laughing and carefree. His warmth, humor, and deep knowledge of Greek history and culture made the day truly unforgettable. We will continue to use Private Greek Tours every time we return to Athens and highly recommend them to anyone looking for a personalized, first-class tour!

Apostolis was an amazing driver guide! We had a lovely day on our tour from Athens to Corinth in the Footage of Apostle Paul. We saw wonderful sights, took great pictures. He was kind and courteous and very customer service oriented. When we wanted a snack or a restroom, he was very accommodating. He also gave us very good history and information. We saw everything we wanted to and more🥰

We had an amazing 3 day trip with Dominik, exploring Meteora, Delphi, Arachova, Nafpaktos. I was very impressed by Dominik’s knowledge and he was always polite. He had superb navigation and driving skills that made our whole trip a pleasant experience. He made time for many photo opportunities, provided information on all the sights, answered any questions we had and made the drive very comfortable. I highly recommend Dominik and the team at PGT for your next trip in Greece. When we wanted to take it easy and rest in the car he was peaceful, when we had a lot of energy he was entertaining us with lots of jokes and pointing out landmark interests and history of Greece. He also provided good recommendations for restaurants, where to get coffee & how to order it when we were in town. His local knowledge was an asset, wher to get tickets, what sights to visit first and we beat the big tour buses everytime to have better experience at the sights. Communication was very easy, thanks again Dominik for making our trip memorable!

My family and I had a fantastic experience with Private Greece Tours! Nikos was incredibly responsive to all my questions and made the booking process smooth and straightforward. Our driver, guide, and now friend Tolis took us through Athens and Delphi, sharing fascinating historical insights while keeping the journey lighthearted and fun. He also recommended a wonderful restaurant in Delphi that we absolutely loved. We also hired two private guides; Anastasia who gave us an engaging tour of the Acropolis, and Georgia, who guided us through Delphi. Both were passionate and extremely knowledgeable, bringing the history of each site to life. Thank you for giving us a great first experience of Greece!
