The North East of England has a deep heritage of faith, reflected in how belief systems evolved across the ages. From prehistoric rock art and ancient standing stones to the rich Christian traditions of miracles, saints and early churches, the region offers a remarkable journey through time. The story begins with Roman religion between AD 43 and AD 410, when the Roman Empire ruled the British Isles for more than three centuries. Numerous gods, cults and beliefs coexisted during this era, sometimes harmoniously and sometimes in conflict. This tour explores the remains of Roman temples and the forts that once stood beside them, offering insight into how spiritual life shaped the daily experiences of Roman settlers.
After the fall of the Roman Empire, new groups from Northern and Central Europe arrived, bringing their own beliefs. These Anglo-Saxon traditions flourished between AD 410 and AD 1066, transforming over the next century into a fully Christian society. This journey continues through medieval faith, including a visit to Escomb, one of the oldest surviving churches in the British Isles, built between AD 670 and AD 685. From this remarkable site, the tour leads into the historic city of Durham, home to its world-renowned UNESCO cathedral, where the medieval spirit of devotion, architecture and culture can be felt in every corner.

As a Trip leader I’ve had the pleasure doing most of my tours this season with Tom Maher and I have to say he’s the best. A very helpful, knowledgeable and efficient driver, very much need for our small group itinerary of Ireland. I look forward to working with him again next year.

Enjoyed the Cliffs of Moher tour. Derek is a fun guide and driver. He kept us entertained throughout the journey. The pub he took us for lunch is also amazing. Fast service and good comforting food!!! All in all great experience! 100% recommended

We had a full day touring Rock of Cashel, Cahir and Blarney Castles. DRIVER7 aka Jonathan was great. He kept us entertained with his extensive knowledge, fun stories and even serenaded the group with some lively Irish songs. All-in-all an enjoyable day even though the weather was wet and windy! Would definitely recommend Irish Day Tours and Jonathan specifically. Toni Los Angeles, California

We joined the Cliffs of Moher tour, and our driver (#9) was outstanding. He was highly knowledgeable, sharing fascinating history and details about each place we visited. Well-organized and precise, he provided exactly the right information at the right time, helping us make the most of our day. One of the best tour guides we’ve had during our trip to Ireland. Highly recommend Irish Day Tours.

Unforgettable Day Trip – Cliffs of Moher, Doolin, Burren & Galway City! This tour was one of the best parts of my trip to Ireland! Everything ran smoothly from beginning to end, and the day was filled with amazing views and local character. The Cliffs of Moher were just as stunning as I’d hoped, and we had plenty of time to take it all in. Visiting Doolin, the Burren, and Galway City gave the trip a nice blend of landscapes and lively places. What truly made the tour special, though, was our incredible guide, Jonathan. He went above and beyond to make the experience engaging and memorable. Not only did he share fascinating stories, legends, and bits of history along the way, but he even sang for us on the bus; he’s actually got a great voice! His energy, humor, and passion for Irish culture brought everything to life. You can tell he genuinely loves what he does. If you're considering this tour, do it! The sights are stunning, the pacing is just right, and if you're lucky enough to get Jonathan as your guide, you're in for a truly magical experience.
