Just returning from a family holiday in the south of France. My mother-in-law and several members of our party are very interested in the Impressionist movement and I wanted to arrange a private tour specific to the life of Van Gogh in Arles. I booked a well reviewed tour online via Provence Tours. Much to our joy, it exceeded all expectations. We met our guide, Romain, at the Arles train station for our four hour tour this July. It was an absolute pleasure to spend the afternoon with him. He took us through the city on foot and shared a wealth of details on Van Gogh's life both before and after his time in Arles. He was keenly aware of some of the mobility issues of our group and was kind to take frequent breaks, even joining us for a beverage at one of the many charming cafés in town. Romain has a deep passion for art, Van Gogh specifically. I thought it was charming he named his young son after Vincent's brother, Theo. I happen to have a degree in art history and he surprised me with several details about Vincent's career and the greater context of the era. I can't say enough about this experience and would recommend it highly to anyone with a deep or even passing interest in Impressionism.

Romain was a fabulous guide - extremely knowledgeable, especially about local and art history - and a marvelous teacher. I have never learned more in such a short period of time, nor enjoyed learning so much. He is enthusiastic, ingenuous, personable and a kind, decent person. You will enjoy his stewardship.

Romain gave us a private tour of Provence and I can’t begin to express how amazing this trip was. Romain knew we had a lot of cities we wanted to cover and he made sure we had plenty of time in each town. He also provided history in each town, and now I know more than ever about Van Gough :) When it came to souvenirs, Romain helped us find authentic trinkets from France. We also loved the lavender fields - highlight of our trip. Thank you again for an amazing tour Romain, my mom and I had thoroughly enjoyed it!

Romain gave us a personal walking tour of Arles and a driving tour of the area around Arles, on the way to Avignon. It was a spectacular tour and he is an excellent guide. He listened to us carefully and customized the tour to cover exactly what we were interested in seeing. His knowledge of the area is extensive and we learned a great deal. We are already planning another trip to the area and hope to engage him again on our next trip. The tour was worth every penny.

Romain gave my wife and me a private tour of Avignon. Informative, great historical detail, and in every way what we were looking for. Romain is personable and knowledgeable. Only wish we could have met him sooner. Far superior compared to local guides that we engaged earlier in our visit to Provence.
