Alvar Aalto stands among Finland’s most influential twentieth century architects and designers, known for his work across architecture, furniture, glassware, textiles and even painting and sculpture. Inspired by Le Corbusier yet deeply rooted in Finnish identity, Aalto shaped the country’s functionalist movement while introducing organic softness to modernist geometric forms. His architecture blends precise structure with flowing natural lines, creating spaces that feel both innovative and humanized. On this guided architectural tour through central Helsinki, you will explore a rich blend of styles, beginning with the neoclassical grandeur of Senate Square where Carl Ludvig Engel designed several of the city’s most iconic buildings, including the Helsinki Cathedral, Government Palace, and the central buildings of the University of Helsinki. The walk continues toward notable Aalto works such as the Enso Gutzeit Building, the Rautatalo Office Building, the Nordea Bank, and the Academic Bookstore, all reflecting his ability to merge functionality with sculptural elegance. Along the way you will also encounter Eliel Saarinen’s early twentieth century Helsinki Central Station, a symbolic gateway to the city.

Must visit for architecture and design enthusiast. Booking in advance is recommended as it's small guided groups. There was the guided tour part then we had the chance to explore the various spaces within the studio independently.

Loved the guided tour! It lasts 30min, then you can wander for 30 more minutes in the studio and take pictures. Might feel a little short as, unlike in the Aalto House, you can touch and try all furnitures and designs. Book your tickets in advance.

Aalto Foundation makes guided visits to the Aalto Studio. The ticket cost 18 Euros per person. Please book your visit online, although yesterday there were available spaces on all the scheduled visits. The host gave a great explanation for approximately 40 minutes and the remaining time of the 1 hour visit is for you to take photos. Excellent place especially for architects.

If you’re an architecture buff, this along with the house (10 min walk from here) are worth checking out. It’s a 30 minute tour (not an hour). Compared to other tours I’ve taken (eg falling water outside of Pittsburgh) this feels s little light.

Absolutely amazing. I had such a great time to experience Alva Aalto's work in a real place where he used to work. Bought a combined ticket to Alvar Aalto House not so far from Studio. Guide was fantastic! Was able to buy some gift at a gift shop in the Studio. The garden is beautiful with giant pine tree. I loved it so much!
