Medinet Habu, the mortuary temple of Ramses III, is one of Luxor’s best-preserved temple complexes, famous for its massive pylons and vivid battle reliefs depicting the king’s victory over the Sea Peoples. Beyond its grand courtyards and detailed carvings, the site is also archaeologically significant for containing some of the earliest known examples of ancient Egyptian sanitary facilities, including remains interpreted as early toilet and bathing installations. These small rooms with drainage features provide insight into practical daily-life infrastructure rarely preserved in other temples. The combination of monumental art, military history, and these unique domestic elements makes Medinet Habu an unusually complete window into New Kingdom life and temple function.

Fantastic well preserved temple. Went early in the morning and skipped all the crowds. Well worth having a private guide to explain the history of the temple. Beautiful courtyards and statues. Some of the original colours are still present and gives us annidea of how bright the temple would habe been at some point

We had an incredible trip to Habu Temple with Abdullah as part of an Adam’s Tours combined package with the sunrise hot air balloon. The place is incredible, so well preserved and the best examples in Luxor compared to Luxor temple and Karnak. This is a must see! A car or transfer is required to get there from Luxor but plenty of drop off space outside. Easy to get tickets at the door and you can stay as long as you like exploring. The site itself stretches around the temple. Don’t miss the rooms on the left hand side of the main pylon. This is where Ramses III spent his time when at the temple, layout perfectly preserved.

We visited Medinet Habu, the mortuary temple of Pharaoh Ramses III, on our last day in Luxor — and it turned out to be one of the most powerful sites on the West Bank. Built over 3,000 years ago, the temple walls are covered with incredibly detailed carvings of Ramses’s battles and victories, especially against the Sea Peoples. The scale and precision are breathtaking — each wall feels alive with movement and power. Unlike most temples, Habu still preserves traces of its original paint, so you can actually see where ancient colors once glowed under the Egyptian sun. The place is quieter than the more famous temples, but that’s part of its charm — wide courtyards, echoing corridors, and hieroglyphs that still hold their voice. If you love history, this is a must-visit. Walk slowly, look closely — the stories here are carved not just on stone, but into time itself.

The Temple of Amun (Medinet Habu) was built by Ramses III, and its colors have been remarkably well preserved. The vibrant murals are truly breathtaking. Walking into the temple feels like stepping back into ancient Egyptian rituals. The entrance fee is very affordable, making it highly recommended! -6/1/25
